The health system in South Sudan is witnessing a complete collapse

For years, this poor country has suffered a lack of security and political stability, but the recent battles in the state of Upper Nile (north) between the forces allied with President Salva Kiir, his opponent’s forces and former deputy Riek Machar raised the concerns of the observers.
The displacement of 60 thousand people
While international attention is focused on fighting in the state of Upper Nile, “Doctors Without Borders” referred to clashes in the states of Jonglei, Al Wahda, my states West and Central Equatorial.
“We are talking about a major conflict that revolves around multiple fronts and multiple sites,” said the director of the organization’s operations, Bakri Abu Bakr.
Abu Bakr described the displacement as a major crisis, as about 60,000 people were displaced in the state of Upper Nile, and 50,000 in Jongly alone.
He added that the organization’s teams witnessed the displacement of entire villages, and said: “He abandoned hospitals, health facilities and community facilities also from its employees.”
He continued: “We are witnessing a collapse in the country’s health system, and half of the medical facilities in southern Sudan were only working before the outbreak of the last fighting.”
Bombing 8 medical facilities
Doctors Without Borders reported that approximately 80% of the country’s health care system is being funded by international bodies, while Juba contributes only 1.3% of its budget.
“We are witnessing an escalation in the attacks on health care facilities, medical cadres and civilian population,” Abdullah Hussein, from the organization, said, including attacks on the white Nile River boats carrying vital supplies and looting of stores in remote locations.
The United Nations says that 8 medical facilities were bombed this year, and doctors without borders believe that the number may be higher.
The head of the MSF mission, Zakaria, favored the increase in the number of wounded people arriving in the city of Malakal after weeks of sleep in the open and moved between the bush, in light of the inability of the medical teams to save them.
