Al Ain is champion of the Emirates Volleyball Cup after defeating Baniyas

Al Ain, April 17, 2017 – The Al Ain team was crowned champion of the Emirates Men’s Volleyball Cup, after defeating its guest, Baniyas, 3-1, in the final match that brought them together today at the Al Ain Club Hall, amid a remarkable audience presence at the conclusion of the tournament.

Al Ain imposed control over most of the match, with the results of the rounds being 26-24, 24-26, 25-17, and 25-19, to win the seventh title in its history, and the first since the 2017-2018 season, after an absence of 8 years.

Following the match, His Excellency Abdullah Juma Al Darmaki, President of the Volleyball Association, His Excellency Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Baniyas Club, and His Excellency Sultan Hamad Al Mutawa Al Dhaheri, Director of the Office of the Deputy President of the Presidential Office for Special Affairs, Member of the Board of Directors of Al Ain Club, crowned the Al Ain team with the championship cup and gold medals, while the Baniyas team won silver medals.

Al Darmaki confirmed that the tournament was the end of the season, pointing out that this success came as a result of integration between all parties of the system.

He praised the technical level presented by the clubs and their role in directing the competitions in a distinguished manner, pointing out that the Federation’s Board of Directors, with the support of the General Assembly, is working to achieve more successes during the coming seasons.

For his part, Ahmed Sultan Al Nuaimi, Sports Director of Group Games at Al Ain Club, said that this achievement carries great value for all club members, and came at an important time after years of absence from the podium, stressing that the team needed this title, and that the celebration reflected the support of the administration and the fans.

He added that the coronation represents a new starting point towards developing and strengthening the team in preparation for foreign participation, and not just competing locally.

Abdulaziz Al-Salman, Secretary-General of the Volleyball Federation, praised the technical level of the competitions, and congratulated Al Ain on the coronation and Baniyas on the strong performance.

He stressed that the organization and public attendance contributed to making the event a distinctive image for volleyball in the country, in light of the continued support from leaders and institutions.

In turn, Omani Jamal Al-Maamari, the technical director of the Al Ain team, expressed his pride in leading the team to achieve this title shortly after assuming the task, stressing that teamwork and determination were behind the team regaining its position on the podiums, in light of the close levels of clubs and the exchange of titles between them.

Mohammed Suleiman Al Dhaher, captain of the Al Ain team, stressed that the team returned strongly to the podium, pointing out that the great efforts of the players, the technical and administrative staff, and the public attendance, played an important role in achieving this achievement.
