During the Baghdad Summit, the Syrian Foreign Minister thanks the UAE for standing alongside the Syrian people

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al -Shaibani affirmed today that his country has taken serious steps towards recovery and stability, stressing that Syria will not be under the tutelage or square to liquidate regional and international accounts.

Al -Shaibani said in a speech during the 34th regular Arab Summit in Baghdad that Syria has positively followed the announcement of US President Donald Trump to lift the sanctions imposed on his country, describing the decision as an important step on the path of national recovery and reconstruction and expressed his thanks to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Turkey for their mediation in this file.

He expressed Syria’s gratitude to the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and all Arab countries that stood by the Syrian people during this delicate stage.

He added that the lifting of sanctions represents the beginning of a new path that Syria hopes to be paved in real Arab cooperation in order to achieve development, preserve Arab national security and enhance regional stability.

He pointed out that Syria is for everyone who has no place for exclusion or marginalization, again its adherence to the unit of its lands and sovereignty and its rejection of any form of external interference and stressed that the self -determination is an exclusive right for the Syrian people and that any project seeks to break up the state or deduct part of its lands convicted and fully rejected.

He touched on the challenges that his country still faces, including ISIS, which said that some external powers seek to recycle and exploit it in addition to the danger of attempts to sow discord and support separatist formations and sectarian and national projects.

He called on the Arab countries to support the Syrian unity of land and people, support the new government, and reject all forms of interference and division in order to preserve the Syrian national identity and the stability of the region.

He renewed his country’s condemnation of the continuous Israeli aggression in southern Syria, stressing the commitment of Syria to the agreement of separating the forces for the year 1974, which he said is still a legal basis for controlling the borders in the occupied Golan region.
