"Energy self -sufficiency" and"Radiological safety leadership" .. the most prominent achievements "Federal Nuclear Control" In 2024

Abu Dhabi, May 19 / WAM / The Federal Nuclear Control Authority issued today its annual report for 2024, which highlights its activities and achievements in the field of nuclear control, with the aim of ensuring the safe and peaceful use of nuclear energy and radiation sources in the United Arab Emirates.

The authority continued its supervisory activities at the Baraka Nuclear Energy Station through inspectors residing at the station, along with other inspectors sent from the authority’s headquarters, where these activities included conducting 20 nuclear security inspections, which were related to areas that include construction, experimental operation, operational preparation, electricity escalation tests, rehabilitation of reactors, and all the four units work in the station Currently, it contributes to providing 25% of the state’s electricity needs.

The authority also continued to perform its duties in controlling the uses of radioactive sources and material protection of nuclear materials and facilities, as the authority last year conducted 58 control operations for the security of establishments that use radioactive materials, in addition to 195 inspections, and the implementation of 195 inspections of radioactive resource transport vehicles.

The authority also carried out seven nuclear security inspections at the Baraka station, and also operates in cooperation with the National Guard Command for the protection of the station, and coordinated with its national partners to ensure nuclear and radiological security during public events.

The commission continued to ensure the peaceful use of nuclear materials in the country by carrying out 50 inspections related to guarantees, and 96 inspections related to import and export control, to ensure the compliance of those licensed to the authority’s regulations, and issued six licenses covering aspects related to security, security and guarantees, as well as 20 licenses related to import and export control.

In the context of its control tasks, the authority continued to issue licenses and inspection on the facilities that use radioactive sources, as it conducted 210 inspections that included 106 medical facilities and 104 non -medical facilities, in addition to issuing 1,090 licenses, which included 163 new licenses, 489 licenses, and 438 renewal of licenses.

The Radiation Protection Committee in the country, which is chaired by the authority, launched a guide entitled “Research and Development in the field of radiological protection in the United Arab Emirates”, which is the first evidence of its kind in the Gulf region, and reflects the commitment of the UAE to enhance radiation safety, sustainability and innovation in nuclear science and technology.

On the other hand, the Authority’s Emergency Operations Center continued its activities to ensure readiness to respond to any nuclear or radiological emergency through capacity building and preserving it, as it was implemented and participated in 18 exercises at the national and international levels, including the response to the nuclear emergencies that may occur outside the country, as well as organizing 11 training workshops, and it also included preparedness for emergency situations also a joint exercise with the Nuclear Control Authority And Saudi radiology to evaluate and evaluate the effectiveness of emergency response systems between the two countries.

Throughout the year 2024, the authority continued its contributions at the international level, as the commission was appointed to the relevant committee to the safety standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the guiding committee concerned with building the agency’s supervisory capabilities, in addition to the Vice -Chairman of the United Nations Scientific Committee concerned with the effects of atomic radiation.

The Authority won the award for the best strategy for privileges and job benefits in the public and government sector at the Gulf Human Resources Awards conference, as well as the 2024 Internal Quality Assessment Award from the UAE Social Association in the Emirates, and the Board of Directors approved the Figo Financial Lists for the year 2024, which was presented fairly.

In the field of national capacity building, the authority continued to give a top priority to train Emiratis and provide them with the necessary nuclear experiences to ensure the sustainability of control tasks, as the authority continued to implement its capacity building programs, including the employee development program, the scholarship program, the leadership program, and the inspectors’ rehabilitation program, and the authority includes more than 250 employees, 76% of them are Emiratis, and women represent 45% of the total working power in The body.
