المملكة: The world in Riyadh .. innovation leaders formulate the principles of the era of artificial intelligence
The President of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, Vice -President of the Council of Governors of the World Research Council, representative of the Middle East and North Africa in the Council of Governor Munir bin Mahmoud El -Desouki, in his speech, stressed that the Kingdom’s hosting of the meeting held for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa region represents a great step towards strengthening global innovation.
The global event
He explained that the global event held in the “garage” is a symbol of the transformation led by the Kingdom’s ambitious vision (2030) through its investment as a parking site to the largest incubator of deep technologies in the region that allows access to more than (100) laboratories and national laboratory possible the research sector from converting applied research outputs from the laboratory to the market and accelerating innovation.
And that this project reflects the rapid transformation that the Kingdom is witnessing in the field of innovation, as it embraces more than (300) startups, the graduation of (600) companies during the past two years, and provided (7500) jobs, and companies have achieved a market value exceeding two billion dollars.

The role of the Kingdom globally
The General Supervisor of the Research, Development and Innovation Authority, Mohamed Al -Otaibi, explained the Kingdom’s growing role globally, stressing that the Kingdom’s hosting of this meeting reflects its commitment to building a global -level research infrastructure, and it is sought through the Vision 2030 to attract talents, and enhance the enabling environment to transform ideas into a tangible reality, and support the principles of open science and the frameworks of moral artificial intelligence.
The Chairman of the Council of Natural and Engineering Research in Canada, Chairman of the Council of the International Research Council, Dr. Alejandro Adam, expressed his appreciation to the Kingdom to host this meeting, which represents a unique opportunity to discuss global challenges, stressing the international consensus that research and innovation have a vital role in facing global challenges, and this will be reflected in the commitment of the World Council to achieve sustainable global cooperation.
Clean energy
While the head of the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council “Tobitak” Orhan Aydin stressed the importance of international cooperation between the members of the Council to face global challenges, such as the shift towards clean energy and reduce emissions, indicating that through cooperation and joint action, effective solutions can be developed for environmental challenges, and the formation of a better future for humanity and the planet through innovation and high -quality research.
The opening included a review of inspiring stories of Saudi youth and girls for the outputs of the research, development and innovation system, which highlights the ability of Saudi innovators to compete globally, and Fajr Al -Khulaifi developed a hybrid device to generate energy from the sun and rain, and Manal Al -Askari created a advanced system to capture solar and thermal energy with high efficiency.
Saudi scholars
Saudi scientists reviewed their experience in investing applied research outputs to emerging companies in deep technologies that support the national economy, and achieve the targets of the vision in enhancing the Kingdom’s competitiveness globally, as Ali Al -Hassan succeeded in establishing a company to develop a nanoparticle technology to treat genetic diseases at a lower cost, and Hoda Al -Khalaf reviewed the emerging company “Mamo Steim” that provides advanced medical solutions using stem cells.
The global meeting agenda witnessed discussions on innovative methods to support scientific research in light of the global challenges presented by the Director of the United Nations University, Chilidze Marwala, and the most prominent Walid Al -Sanea from “Kax” the importance of artificial intelligence in developing scientific research systems.
Regional cooperation
The sessions focused on discussing strategies to enhance regional cooperation in scientific research, the impact of artificial intelligence on innovation, and the empowerment of research societies through modern technology.
Working groups discussed issues related to scientific innovation in the Americas, the prospects for research cooperation in Asia and the Pacific, and the priorities of research in Europe, as well as developing infrastructure for scientific research in the Middle East and North Africa region.
The sessions concluded with a review of the main principles of the Department of Scientific Research in the era of artificial intelligence.
