Rice prices set a new record … accelerating inflation in Japan

Tokyo on May 24 / WAM / The basic consumer prices in Japan, with the exception of the fluctuating fresh foods during April, increased by 3.5% from the same month of the previous year, due to the decrease in the support of the Japanese government for public utilities and the rise in rice prices.
The data indicated that energy prices increase by 9.3%, with electricity bills increasing 13.5%and home gas 4.7%.
The government re -supported electricity and home gas bills with the continued suffering of families from the pressure of living, but it reduced them in April.
The prices of food, with the exception of fresh, increased by 7%, to remain a major contributor to the flight of prices in general, as rice prices recorded a new record for the seventh month in a row with a jump of 98.4% amid the continued deficiency of the supply.
The prices of perennial home commodities increased 6.4%, driven by strong demand for air conditioners due to expectations for hot summer, and the prices of services, which the Japanese Central Bank monitors closely when making a decision on monetary policy because it often reflects the wage increases, by 1.3% in April, a slight decrease from 1.4% in March, partly due to the impact of government support for secondary school fees.
Experts suggested that rice prices continue to pay prices in the services sector, which includes the restaurants sector, which supports the central bank raising interest rates if Japan achieved a positive result in customs duties negotiations with the United States.
