Electric car sales grow up to 45%

Officials of auto agencies in the country stated that there is growth of 45% in sales of electric vehicles, during the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year, and pointed out that this reflects a widespread shift in the market trends towards sustainable movement.

They attributed to «Emirates Today» growth to the expansion of the shipping infrastructure, the launch of many new models within different price categories, the provision of government incentives, including reducing registration fees, exemption from customs duties, adopting a unified tariff for charging electric cars, and increasing awareness of the importance of sustainability.

The first quarter

In detail, the general manager of the “Al Habtoor Motor Company”, Karim Maqsoud, said: “The first quarter of this year constituted a detailed period in the Al Habtoor Auto Car Path in the Emirates, where sales increased by about 45% compared to the same period in 2024.”

He added: «This significant increase in sales and unprecedented demand from consumers to buy, reflects a widespread shift in the market trends towards sustainable movement with the support of the government and the improvement of infrastructure, which made the UAE one of the most vital markets for electric cars in the region, and also reflects a great harmony between government policies and private sector initiatives and increasing demand from consumers.

Maqsoud pointed to several fundamental factors behind this growth, the most important of which are the supportive government initiatives and policies that provide a strong infrastructure for shipping stations, and that the expansion of the shipping network helped reduce the level of anxiety from the extent of driving using the electric battery, as well as the increasing trend towards environmentally friendly means of transportation, stressing that the UAE’s commitment to achieving the goals of “carbon neutrality 2050” stimulated the spread of electric cars.

He noted that the “Al -Habtoor” launched, this year, the “Jack E30X” model, while a new electrical models will be launched soon to meet the increasing demand, and to enhance the state’s transformation towards sustainable transportation.

Maqsoud stressed that there are many additional factors that support the increase in demand for electric cars in the future, foremost of which is the continuation of strong government support, and the economic benefits associated with the possession of electric vehicles, in terms of the cost of operating, incentives and environmental awareness, adopting possible strategies to accelerate the frequency of these vehicles, such as expanding the scope of financial incentives, developing the used electric vehicle market, intensifying awareness campaigns to explain The total benefits of owning these vehicles.

At the same time, he pointed out that despite the strong momentum, some challenges are still exist, as the cost of initial electric vehicles, despite their gradual decrease, constitutes an obstacle to some, and concern for some consumers continues from the distance that the vehicle travels.

For his part, Jean -Shaidgan, Director General of Audi Al -Nabouda, said: “There is continuous growth in sales of electric vehicles in the Emirates, driven by the expansion of infrastructure and government incentives, such as reducing registration fees, exemption from customs duties, and adopting a unified tariff for car shipping, coinciding with the state’s aspiration until 50% of vehicles are on roads, electricity by 2050, And the increase in public awareness of the importance of sustainability.

He explained that the diversity of electric car models allowed consumers to choose what suits them without sacrificing design, performance or brand, while linking the state’s policies to climate transformation to the future of electrical transportation, calling for the continuation of the provision of incentives, and facilitating access to shipping stations.

For his part, Mustafa Azzam said: “There is growth of 30% in electric car sales during the first quarter 2025, compared to the same period last year, according to the style, price and benefits.”

He added: «This growth is driven by growth infrastructure, government facilities and incentives, expansion in the introduction of different categories of electric vehicles at different prices, and increasing confidence in the future of electric vehicles.

As for the general manager of “Audi Abu Dhabi”, Scott Sherez, he said that “sales of electric vehicles continued to grow in the first quarter, driven by increasing the number of new companies in the market that offer a variety of electrical models, and the launch of many brands of new electric models within different price categories, which encouraged a wider segment to buy.”

He added that several major companies, such as taxi companies and leasing companies, started adding electric vehicles to their fleets, in an effort to achieve their goals in sustainability, in addition to speeding up the shipping period and increasing the extent of driving.

He noted that “Audi” recently launched “Q6 E-Tron” and “E-Tron GT”, while the A6 and S6 E-Tron later will be launched later this year.

He stressed that the availability of the infrastructure for shipping and ease of access to it is one of the most prominent challenges in front of its spread on a wider scale in the Emirates, as it is necessary for consumers to feel the confidence in easy access to the vehicle charging stations, and they also used to supply their cars with fuel from the traditional stations.
