Dubai Roads expands its electric bike delivery service to 11 regions

Dubai, July 27 / WAM / The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has expanded the scope of the delivery service via electric bicycles to include 11 regions in the emirate, adding seven new regions, within the framework of implementing the Commercial Transport and Logistics Strategy 2030, and the “First and Last Mile” strategy, which aim to enhance the sustainable transport system, raise the efficiency of delivery services, and develop the sector in accordance with international best practices.

The expansion comes after the success of the trial operation of the service, which was launched last February in four areas. The new phase included the areas of Al Twar 1, Al Twar 2, Al Qusais 1, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Dubai Media City, Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT), and Dubai Marina, joining the areas of Al Karama, Al Hamriya, Umm Hurair, and Al Mankhool.

The Authority confirmed that the expansion is consistent with its efforts to enhance sustainability, reduce operating costs, and improve the efficiency of order delivery services, in addition to implementing an integrated security and safety system in delivery operations.

She explained that the implementation of the new phase came after completing the procedures for organizing and governing the order delivery sector, including licensing requirements, operating mechanisms, developing regulatory regulations, and enhancing oversight and compliance, which contributes to raising the efficiency of the sector and ensuring the safety of its operations.

She added that the selection of the new areas was based on criteria that include the availability of appropriate infrastructure, bicycle paths, the nature of the areas, their proximity to stores and restaurants, the high demand for service, and the increased use of flexible transportation, in partnership with private sector operators in accordance with approved operational and regulatory requirements.

The results of the pilot phase of the service showed achieving a customer satisfaction rate of about 99%, while the driver satisfaction rate exceeded 90%, in addition to addressing operational challenges in coordination with partners.

The Authority confirmed the continued development of the system for regulating the order delivery sector in Dubai, in a way that strengthens the governance of the sector, improves the quality of services, and keeps pace with the continuous growth in the volume of demand and the number of bicycles operating in the emirate.
