The Minister of Tourism heads the Bahrain delegation to the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization in Spain

Mrs. Fatima bint Jaafar Al -Serafi, Minister of Tourism, affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness to participate actively in international forums concerned with the development of the tourism sector, and to continue its role as an active partner in formulating the future of sustainable tourism, and working with the rest of the member states of the World Tourism Organization in an integral manner in order to achieve comprehensive development goals and enhance international integration in the tourism industry.
This came during her happiness, the delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain participating in the work of the 123rd session of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization, which will be held during the period from 29 to 30 May 2025 in Sigovia, Spain, with the participation of senior officials and decision makers in the tourism sector from member states.
Al -Serafi pointed out the importance of benefiting from technology in improving the tourism experience, enhancing innovation in providing services, and exchanging experiences between the member states of the World Tourism Organization, which contributes to raising the quality of the tourism product and improving the visitor’s experience.
With regard to the axis of tourism and climate work, the minister explained that the Kingdom of Bahrain is committed with the aim of reaching carbon neutrality by 2060, and works to enhance sustainable environmental tourism through projects that depend on clean energy and take into account the preservation of the environment, in line with the Kingdom’s international climate obligations.
The meetings included a group of major axes, the most prominent of which is the comprehensive report presented by the Secretary -General of the organization on current trends in international tourism, reviewing the rates of recovery and growth, in addition to the challenges and opportunities facing the sector as a result of economic and environmental changes and the need to adopt innovative and sustainable models. The meeting also discussed the preparations related to the twenty -sixth General Assembly of the organization, as well as the proposed topics to celebrate World Tourism Day for 2026 and 2027, reflecting the aspirations of the international community towards more flexible and sustainable tourism.
