The election of the former German Foreign Minister is the president of the General Assembly in its 80th session

It is noteworthy that over the history of the United Nations, four women took over the presidency of the General Assembly, the last of which was Maria Fernanda Espinoza (Ecuador) in 2018, preceded by Sheikha Haya Rashid Al Khalifa (Bahrain) in 2006, Angi Brooks (Liberia) in 1969, and Vijaya Lakshmi Bandit (India) in 1953.
It is noteworthy that the General Assembly is the most representative body in the United Nations – and includes all 193 member states.
