The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Emirates University launched an initiative "Academic carnival"

Al Ain, June 4/ WAM/ The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Arab Emirates University, with the participation of a number of educational and research institutions in the country, launched the “Academic Carnival” initiative within the activities of the United Nations Water Conference, in a qualitative step aimed at highlighting the role of universities and leading institutions in supporting water security and environmental sustainability, through education, research and institutional cooperation, in the campus in the Al Ain region.

His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to His Highness the President of the State, Supreme President of the United Arab Emirates University, confirmed in a speech during the official ceremony of the launch of the initiative, that the academic carnival embodies the commitment of universities to its national and international role in building a more sustainable future, noting that the effective management of water resources is no longer just a technical issue, but rather has become a strategic priority that affects environmental, economic and social dimensions at the same time.

He added that the initiative represents a vital platform that brings together national education institutions to display its strategic projects related to the water file, in preparation for its participation in the next United Nations conference hosted by the UAE in partnership with the Republic of Senegal.

His Excellency pointed out the importance of enhancing integration between universities and national research centers, and the role of knowledge in providing practical solutions to the accelerated global challenges.

He stressed that the “cognitive partnership” represents the cornerstone of any civilizational renaissance, considering that the “academic carnival” embodies this concept by enhancing dialogue between national universities and global dialogue paths on water, sustainability, and environmental security.

For her part, Sheikha Dr. Moza Bint Tahnoon Al Nahyan, a consultant at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in her speech, confirmed that the United Arab Emirates has put water, energy and sustainability issues in its highest priorities, especially since the water affects all aspects of life, noting that the state hosting the United Nations Water Conference in the year 2026 comes in partnership with the Republic of Senegal to emphasize the position of the state and the wise leadership of water.

She explained that the launch of the academic carnival initiative as a qualitative and scientific path adds to the conference’s axes, stressing the importance of the integration of science and research in development issues at the national and international level, valuing partnership between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, universities and prestigious national academic institutions and the “FAO” agriculture and food organization that provides technical support for the initiative.

Sheikha Dr. Moza Bint Tahnoon Al Nahyan thanked and appreciated the United Arab Emirates University for hosting the initiative’s launch effectiveness and for all partners of the initiative.

The event witnessed the participation of a number of representatives of prominent educational and research institutions in the country, most notably Abu Dhabi University, Sharjah University, the Rabban Academy, and the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research, and the event concluded with honoring the participating authorities, in appreciation of their contributions to supporting this national initiative and enhancing academic cooperation in water and sustainability issues.
