Complete the update of lighting systems at Dubai and Al Maktoum airports

Dubai Airports Corporation signed an agreement with the Etihad Energy Services Company “Etihad Esco”, which is fully owned by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, to launch the final stage of the project to update lighting systems in the “Dubai” and “Al Maktoum” international airports.
A statement, issued yesterday, stated that this new stage includes replacing more than 180,000 traditional lighting units with energy -saving units in airports facilities.
The installation work is scheduled to start later this year, and will continue until the second half of 2027.
The Concurs A building at Dubai International Airport is the largest area covered by the project within this stage, which comes as a complement to the first stage, which included replacing 150,000 lighting units at Dubai International Airport, bringing the total number of units replaced to more than 330 thousand units, which makes it one of the major initiatives to update lighting systems at the region’s airports.
It is expected that the project will contribute to reducing energy consumption by about 47 million kilowatt hours annually, equivalent to the average consumption of more than 4300 homes during a whole year, which reflects the concrete impact of sustainable practices in operational operations. The project will also include annual savings exceeding 20 million dirhams, which supports the efforts of Dubai airports in promoting operational efficiency and achieving the environmental goals of the Emirate of Dubai.
“The cooperation between (Dubai Airports) and (the Union of Energy Services) represents a pioneering model in consolidating energy efficiency, reducing emissions, and achieving the goals of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy,” said Managing Director, CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.
