39 thousand electric vehicles in Dubai

Saeed Mohammed Al -Tayer, Managing Director, CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, announced that the “Green charger” initiative recorded 23.6% in the operations of charging electric vehicles during the first quarter of the year 2025, compared to the same period in the year 2024.

Through its initiative “Green Charger”, the authority presented more than 39.159 megawatts an hour of electricity to charge electric vehicles in the Emirate of Dubai from 2015 until the end of the first quarter of the year 2025, which contributed to cutting a total of more than 195 million kilometers using electric vehicles.

Dubai has witnessed a noticeable increase in the use of electric vehicles from 2015 until today.

The number of electric vehicles in Dubai until the end of the first quarter of the year 2025 reached 39 thousand vehicles, an increase of 5.41% from the first quarter of 2024, which confirms in a significant manner the success of the emirate’s plans to transform into environmentally friendly sustainable transportation.

Saeed Mohammed Al -Tayer said, in a statement issued by the authority today: We support the shift towards the use of the green transport system and the achievement of climate neutrality by reducing the carbon footprint in the transport sector, and enhancing the competitiveness of the United Arab Emirates and the Emirate of Dubai in the field of electric vehicles, in line with the Emirates Climate Neutral Strategy 2050, and the Dubai Green Transport Strategy 2030.

The number of registered in the “Green Charger” initiative for electric vehicles increased from 14 transactions in 2015, bringing the number to 20,903 dealers by the end of the first quarter of the year 2025.

Dubai has an advanced infrastructure that includes more than 1,100 charging points for electric vehicles, including stations developed by the authority within its initiative, the green charger, and the stations developed by the independent shipping points licensed from the authority, while the electric vehicles are witnessing an increasing demand in the UAE.

According to a comprehensive survey conducted by the international company “Tolona”, it was found that 73% of the country’s population prefer to buy electric cars, as “green charger” stations are available for electric vehicles around the clock throughout the week in many vital sites in Dubai.

Dealers can determine the locations of the shipping stations spread throughout Dubai easily through the authority’s website and its smart application, and 14 other digital platforms.

The types of stations that Dubai Electricity and Water Authority include several types, which are high -speed charger, rapid charger, public places, and murals.

The authority allows customers to create a green charger account through its website and its smart application or through the interactive audio response system at the Customer Care Center, which enables them to benefit from the authority’s shipping stations within an hour of the vehicle’s registration, and the authority also allows all dealers, whether they are registered in the “Green Charger” initiative or not registered, to benefit from the service through the “visitor feature”.
