Sudan: Dragon testimonies of women who were raped and kidnapped in the midst of war

As the conflict in Sudan entered its third year, the war continues to destroy large parts of the country. The clashes have led to the largest global displacement crisis, as more than 12 million people were forced to leave their homes, and children and women pay the largest price of this disaster.

in International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict CasesThe United Nations revives annually on June 19, colleague Natalie Minard of United Nations news in Geneva with Marwa*, represented by one of these organizations working closely with local women’s groups in Sudan, with the support of the United Nations Women and Humanitarian Work Fund.

Marwa has revealed tragic stories about the kidnapping of girls, sexual violence to all age groups, and how women appear at the popular level flexibility and try to influence the peace process.

Marwa described the situation in Sudan as “Unprecedented context”Where women and girls face tremendous suffering, noting that the displacement of families and their separation from each other and the loss of all property.

I explained this by saying: For example, the majority of women worked in factories or sold food in the streets. This women’s sector incurred heavy losses due to the war that destroyed the infrastructure, which stopped industry, transportation, agriculture and all the activities of living. People lost all the sources of their income, but this effect was more severe on the women and girls who were not affected by the conflict, as they bear the burdens of war and try to maintain the cohesion of their families and provide food for them and their societies.

She explained that the escalation of gender -based violence affected them significantly. She said: “Sexual violence has increased dramatically, women now suffer from shocks and stigma. There are also crimes because of it. Recently, we had some kidnapping of girls. Many girls have been kidnapped Without any mechanism to track them or restore them. This is now happening in Sudan. “

“Try to defeat people psychologically”

Marwa talked about the fate of young girls who are kidnapped and forced marriage or sexual slavery, explaining, “It is a kind of insulting families. For us as a conservative society, the kidnapping of the girl is one of the most terrible sins.” She added that these practices not only aim to enslave or sell, but also “a kind of defeating people from within, to make them surrender.”

She pointed out that this matter occurs in separate areas of Sudan, but specifically in the areas of Darfur and also on the border between Darfur and Chad, noting that this region is the most dangerous.

“A shame for humanity”

The fact -finding mission in Sudan reported that sexual violence increased by 288 percent, from December 2023 to December 2024. This is more likely less than reality. These statistics are based on reports from the victims who requested support.

She once says that all these statistics are correct, noting that there are many cases that are not announced in relation to the conservative nature of society.

She adds: “I have encountered tragic stories about women. For example, young girls decided to commit suicide because of the stigma caused by rape. She also shocked many women because the perpetrators did not differentiate between young women, mothers, or even grandmothers. The type of stories is really tragic and continues. “

In a message to the young girls and women who were in the furnace of these horrific wars, Marwa said.Just hold, and continue to work. Create more concrete initiatives and educate that you will adopt peace. “
