Abu Dhabi, June 24 / WAM / The Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection held a meeting chaired by His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al -Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, during which she reviewed the most prominent efforts and achievements achieved in 2024 to enhance the protection of consumer rights and control of goods and products in the various seven Emirates, and to provide a safe and stable consumer environment that is compatible with the best practices followed globally, in a way that contributes to improving the quality of life For society and enhances the competitiveness of the business and trade environment in the country at the regional and global levels.

In this regard, His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al -Marri said that the UAE, thanks to the directives of its rational leadership, made wide strides in developing legislative and regulatory frameworks to create a pioneering and integrated system to protect consumers, ensure their rights and enable sound and fair commercial practices.

He pointed to the vital role played by the committee in raising the levels of compliance with legislation and policies related to consumer rights and tightening market control, as well as enhancing coordination and integration with the federal and local authorities concerned to implement the targets of national projects and strategies in this regard, in a way that contributes to achieving the state’s vision to become the most prosperous society in the next decade, in light of the targets of the “UAE 2031” vision.

His Excellency added that the committee adopted a proactive approach in developing national plans and initiatives aimed at harmonizing the legislation with the ongoing changes in the market, taking care to apply the highest protection standards for consumers when buying goods, products and services from the suppliers, and also worked to develop effective mechanisms and policies to control goods and products and ensure their availability in the quantities needed to meet the needs of consumers, especially In light of the economic and geopolitical challenges in the world.

The meeting reviewed the committee’s efforts to enhance control of the e -commerce sector, including digital trade platforms, by supporting the issuance and modernization of a set of legislation and economic policies for this vital sector, including the decree of the Federal Law No. 14 of 2023 regarding trade through modern technology, which aims to regulate and develop the field of e -commerce in the country, and covers various aspects of modern trade -based trade on technology and advanced technologies, starting with determining the scope of application The goals and competencies of the authorities related, standards and technical requirements to consumer protection and conflict settlement mechanisms, data management, insurance coverage, legal responsibilities and implementation mechanisms, in order to establish the UAE’s position as a safe and reliable business environment for e -commerce.

In the same context, the committee reviewed the efforts of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism and its partners in controlling markets and controlling the prices of goods and products during the year 2024, where 34,499 inspection rounds were implemented that resulted in 3561 violations, and the Ministry also received through electronic services to solve complaints approximately 2000 complaints, and 115 calls for goods that are not identical to the specifications through the summons service during the past year, where this service allows this service Follow -up to the withdrawal of defective goods through the provider, the concerned authority, or the relevant authority in the country, in the country of origin, or any other country, and work to implement the recovery operations within the state, protect the health and safety of consumers and their rights and ensure the rights of retailers and manufacturers, and maintain the stability of the market in the state.

The committee reviewed the developments of the implementation of the policy of pricing basic consumer goods in the country, including the three ministerial decisions related to the policy, which include monitoring the prices of basic consumer goods, activating the unit price offer for some consumer goods, and returning to the guiding code Consumer interests and commodity suppliers.

The Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection continued the latest developments in developing a new digital project aimed at tightening control of the prices of products and commodities electronically, and the speed of taking the necessary measures if it was discovered by any violations, and receiving complaints more flexible and easily, by providing a “integrated system for market analysis and remote control of consumer goods”, in a way that ensures the advancement of the market control system in the country depending on the latest solutions Technology and innovative.

The committee discussed ways of cooperation between the relevant authorities to enhance the consumer awareness of its rights, duties and obligations, and to encourage sound consumer behavior in a way that contributes to making studied purchase decisions, and obtaining accurate and correct information and data about the goods or services provided, as well as the right of the consumer to obtain fair compensation in the event of any damage that resulted from the purchase or use of a commodity or service.
