United Nations: The ceasefire is an opportunity to avoid a catastrophic escalation and a peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear file

This came in the semi -annual briefing session held by the UN Security Council today on the implementation of Resolution 2231, which supported the joint comprehensive work plan on the Iranian nuclear program. It is noteworthy that today’s meeting is the last briefing according to Resolution 2231, which will end in the effect of next October.
The UN official said that the plan – which was adopted in 2015 to ensure the pure peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program – faced many challenges, the most recent of which was the dangerous military escalation in the region.
Mrs. Decarto said that the ceasefire agreement announced by the United States “It is an important achievement that would withdraw Iran, Israel and the region from the brink of the abyss,” She emphasized that the people of Iran and Israel have already suffered a lot.
According to the Iranian Ministry of Health, at least 606 people have been killed since the conflict began, 107 have been killed in the past twenty -four hours, and 5332 others have been wounded. While 28 people were killed and 1472 were wounded in Israel, according to the authorities there.
Mrs. Decarlo reminded the Council of the reports of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which monitored a significant increase in the production and accumulation of highly enriched uranium by Iran, adding that the agency lost its continuity of its knowledge of many aspects of the country’s nuclear program as it was unable to carry out verification and monitoring activities for more than four years.
The International Atomic Energy Agency also indicated in its report issued in May that it was “Unable to verify the total enriched uranium stock in the country, and has not done so since February 2021.”
The Undersecretary of the Secretary -General said that the essence of this conflict lies in the nature of the Iranian nuclear program. She added: “After the deadly clashes that took place during the past twelve days, the ceasefire agreement is an opportunity to avoid a catastrophic escalation and a peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.”
Ms. Decarlo said that diplomacy, dialogue and verification are still the perfect choice to ensure the pure peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program, and to achieve concrete economic benefits for the Iranian people. She again emphasized the Secretary -General of the Secretary -General of the United Nations to support all efforts that enhance peace, dialogue and stability in the region.
She pointed out that the organization will continue to support the implementation of Resolution 2231 to the date of its expiry, set on October 18, unless the council decides otherwise.
European Union
The head of the European Union delegation to the United Nations, Ambassador Stavros Lambrinides, said that “This session is held under extremely dangerous circumstances, with a dangerous escalation course in the wake of military action against sites related to the nuclear program in Iran.” He pointed to the increasing risk of this conflict out of control quickly – with “catastrophic consequences for civilians, the region, and the world.”
He added that after four months from now, the Security Council will not be concerned with the issue of the Iranian nuclear file under Resolution 2231 (2015), stressing urgently the need to return to a diplomatic solution. He said: “A permanent solution to the Iranian nuclear file can only be reached through a negotiating deal, not military action.”
It is noteworthy that the European Union works as a coordinator for the joint committee for the joint comprehensive work plan, which consists of the current parties in the plan – China, France, Germany, Iran, Russia, and the United Kingdom. The United States was an original party in the joint comprehensive work plan, but withdrew in 2018.

Slovenia
As the facilitator of the Security Council concerned with the implementation of Resolution 2231 (2015), Slovenia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Samuel Zabugar, described the joint comprehensive work plan (JCPOA) as it There is no doubt one of the greatest achievements of pluralism in the past decadeAnd indicating that she established a strong system, which, in a comprehensive way, had an urgent international security issue.
However, the plan has suffered from setbacks in recent years, as he indicated, expressing his regret that the United States will withdraw from it and “Iran gradually retreat from many of its obligations under the joint comprehensive work plan.” He stressed that re -establishing constructive cooperation for Iran with the International Atomic Energy Agency is essential and will help the country restore the confidence of the international community over its nuclear activities.

US
For its part, the list of US delegate to the United Nations said Dorothy Xia Iran’s failure to fulfill its obligations related to the prevention of nuclear proliferation “led to the prolongation of conflicts and the establishment of instability in the Middle East and abroad for many years.”
She said that the latest report issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency on verification and monitoring “It clearly shows that Iran has continued to accelerate its nuclear activities without any reliable civil justification.”
Mrs. Chia expressed her regret that some members of this council “chose to turn a blind eye to – if not encourage – Iran’s lack of compliance,” adding that her country will not do so.
She said that the goal of what she described as “Historical Operation” Its country implemented was to weaken Iran’s ability to produce a nuclear weapon And “reduce the threat that Iran poses on Israel and the region, and on a broader scale, on international peace and security.”
She concluded her speech by saying: “At this critical moment, we must all urge Iran to seize this opportunity for peace and prosperity – and fulfill its international obligations.”
Iran
Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Said Irwani, said that today we are “closer to diplomacy than ever”, and thanked “the sisterly and friendly State of Qatar” for its sincere diplomatic efforts to end the “Israeli aggression” on his country and prevent further escalation of regional tensions.
Mr. Irwani stressed the necessity of ending in Resolution 2331 on the specified date, adding that Iran rejects “any attempt to revive expired provisions under any pretext.”
Mr. Irwani said that “the double standards are blatant,” explaining that while the United States, the United Kingdom and France maintain a huge nuclear arsenal “and condoned Israel’s unannounced stocks, it falsely claims that Iran’s peaceful program threatens international peace and security.”
He said that the “corrective” measures taken by his country after the United States withdrew from the agreement are perfectly compatible with the plan and Resolution 2331, “and were only aimed at restoring balance and encouraging all parties to return to its obligations.”
He said that Iran has never started this war, and as soon as the aggression stopped, it stopped “its military response as well.” He added: “The long and large -scale war that they believed would force Iran to the so -called unconditional surrender and make it abandon its peaceful nuclear program through intimidation, threat and use of force has failed more clearly than ever.”
The Iranian ambassador said that this “proves a simple truth more clearly than ever, that diplomacy and dialogue are the only way to solve the unnecessary crisis on Iran’s peaceful program.”
Israel
The permanent representative of Israel to the United Nations, Ambassador Danny Danone, said that a country – and since the launch of the “rising lion” operation – has worked to remove a dual existential threat represented in the nuclear threat and ballistic missiles. He explained that the Israeli army achieved a “complete air superiority over Tehran, directed a severe blow to the military leadership, and destroyed dozens of the Iranian regime’s targets.”
He accused Iran of deceiving the world for years, using diplomacy with a cover to move forward in its nuclear program, he said, noting that “there is still time to take effective and decisive measures to ensure that Iran’s nuclear threat is not stronger than before.”
He added: “Our forces have achieved the goal of our operation to remove these threats in full coordination with President Trump. Israel agreed to President Trump’s suggestion to a ceasefire, and we thank the United States for its support and decisive role in removing the Iranian nuclear threat.”
