7 requirements for installing vehicle parking shades in Dubai residential neighborhoods

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has set seven main requirements, requirements and technical standards, in addition to unified specifications for shape, materials and colours, to obtain a permit to install external vehicle parking shades in residential neighbourhoods, which are carried out on reserved regular parking lots, with the aim of ensuring traffic safety and preserving the civilized appearance of the Emirate of Dubai.

It explained in a report it issued on the list of requirements, requirements and technical standards required to issue a no-objection certificate for installing external vehicle parking shades in residential neighborhoods, that the details of the technical requirements and stipulations include “limiting the installation of shades to regular reserved parking lots only, maintaining sufficient space to ensure the flow and safety of pedestrian movement, and that the shade be at least 0.6 meters away from the edge of the road, and that the height of the shade should not be less than 2.5 meters, and that the shade should not obscure any Traffic plates or special parking plates.

The authority stipulated that “the depth of the canopy’s foundation should not exceed 0.7 metres, provided that the canopy is stable and can withstand climatic fluctuations, that the design of the canopy is studied from a structural standpoint, that the installation of the canopy be temporary, and that it be removed if required by any service body such as Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dubai Municipality, and telecommunications companies (Etisalat and Du), provided that the entity that requested approval for removal shall bear all costs resulting from that.”

The authority indicated that a unified structure has been approved for parking canopies, stressing that the permitted parking canopy that is installed must be of the same approved type in order to obtain a no-objection certificate, as it is now required that the canopy cover be in the desert color, while the structure is made of mild steel, aluminum, or powder coating, and in the color (light beige), in order to ensure structural safety and preserve the general appearance of the city.

The Authority explained that the approved requirements come as a continuation of the service of permitting the installation of canopies for vehicle parking in residential neighborhoods that it recently launched, which is carried out on reserved regular parking lots. This service is available through the Authority’s website through contracting companies, as the application is submitted from a unified window to obtain the approval of all other relevant service authorities.

She pointed out that the launch of this service comes in response to the needs of residents and from the standpoint of improving the quality of life and preserving the cultural and aesthetic appearance of the Emirate of Dubai, stressing her keenness to listen to residents’ comments regarding awnings through customer councils and field visits, especially with the rising temperatures in the summer and the increasing number of vehicles in residential units.

“Dubai Roads” called on the owners of new residential units and future owners in charge of construction, to respect the right of way, and to ensure during the period of installing the awnings that they comply with the standards in the Emirate of Dubai, indicating that the aim of the service is to organize the process of installing the awnings in accordance with the approved technical specifications and requirements, and in a way that ensures the preservation of the civilized appearance of the emirate, the safety and flow of pedestrian and vehicle movement, and not affecting traffic signs or elements of road furniture.

• The “Authority” stipulated that the canopy’s structure be made of mild steel or aluminum, and that there was no objection to its removal when required by the service authorities.
