The Security Council discusses developments in the situation in Sudan

The Council is expected to listen to a briefing from Martha Bobby, Assistant Secretary -General for African Affairs in the Department of Political Affairs and Peace Building, in addition to a representative of civil society.

Bobby is likely to offer a general overview of the deterioration of the security situation in Sudan. In June, the conflict witnessed transformations in the front front lines and the intensification of fighting across several regions. The fierce battles continued in the Kordofan region, where all the conflicting parties sought to enhance their gains on the ground.

It is also expected that the council will listen to a briefing from the Chairman of the Sudanese Punishment Committee- which was established by the Council By Resolution 1591About the work of the committee. In the closed consultations session, the Council will listen to a briefing from the personal envoy of the Secretary -General of Sudan, Ramtan, Amamra.
