Low asylum requests in Germany by 50%

Germany witnessed a remarkable decrease in the number of asylum applications during the first six months of this year by about 50 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the figures issued by the Federal Office for Migration and German Refugees.

The data showed that 61,336 people first submitted a request for protection in Germany during the first half of the year.

The German News Agency said that this decline is due to the measures taken by the Balkans to reduce irregular migration, in addition to the fixed inspections that Berlin gradually applied to all the land borders of Germany.

She pointed to another factor, which is to change the situation inside Syria in early December.
