Paris, July 13 / WAM / Mrs. Simona Merla Mikolkku, President of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), appreciated the pioneering role played by the United Arab Emirates in protecting and preserving cultural and natural heritage at the national and global levels, stressing that the UAE is a major partner of the organization and a role model in this field.
This praise came in a special interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) in Paris, where Mikolsku was appreciated by the recent Emirati success represented in the inclusion of the archaeological site “Al -Fayya” in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and described this achievement as a strong message that reflects the deep commitment of the Emirates to protect the common human memory, and its awareness of the value of heritage sites as bridges of dialogue and understanding between peoples.
The UN official stressed that the role of the UAE exceeds its national borders, saying: The UAE is not only sufficient to protect its national heritage, but also initiates a helping hand to protect world heritage, and this reflects its civilizational vision and moral responsibility towards all humanity.
She pointed out that the UAE is one of the main partners of the organization, as it provided clear support for important international initiatives, including projects to rehabilitate heritage sites affected by conflicts, especially in the Arab region.
On the exceptional value of the “Al -Faya” website, Micolsku explained: Al -Fayyah is not just an archaeological site, but rather a witness to early stages of the development of mankind, and on the interaction of man with his natural environment in an area of exceptional geological and cultural importance, and she said that what makes it distinctive is his direct association with the first human migrations of Africa towards Asia, which is a decisive stage in human history that is still the subject of an intense study, indicated, Until the documented discoveries constitute a rich material for researchers and anthropologists.
She praised the efforts that led to this international recognition, saying: His registration on the World Heritage List is a very important step, which came thanks to an accurate scientific work and long efforts by the UAE in cooperation with international experts, in a framework that respects the strict standards adopted by UNESCO, the Emirati file was integrated and convincing, and we highly value this level of professionalism.
Mikolkco praised the Emirati approach to integrating heritage protection with sustainable development plans, stressing that the UAE provides an example of how heritage sites can be a pillar of cultural and economic development at the same time, through investing in sustainable tourism, and involving local communities in managing and protecting those sites, and described the Emirati experience as a model that is embracing other countries in the region and the world.
On the bilateral relations, the President of the General Conference of UNESCO expressed the organization’s pride in its partnership with the Emirates, saying: We appreciate its concrete contributions, whether by financing the initiatives or active participation in formulating global cultural policies, the UAE always confirms that culture is not a luxury, but rather a necessity to achieve global peace and prosperity.
