The European Union sends an expert team to Washington to negotiate with US customs duties

The European Union has sent a team of trade experts to Washington to hold talks at the technical level with the American side in light of the escalation of pressure in order to reach an agreement with the administration of US President Donald Trump before the deadline of the deadline to impose customs duties by 30% on USA’s imports from European Union.

The German News Agency quoted the European Commission as saying in a statement that European Trade Commissioner Marush Shevchaovic will hold telephone talks with American commercial actor Jameson Jarir later today.

Shivchovic had conversations yesterday with US Minister of Commerce Howard Lootnick did not reveal its details.

The European Union is striving to avoid 30% customs duties that threaten the US president to impose on the commodities of the European Union if the Union does not make sufficient concessions in commercial talks with Washington.

Trump has called for measures to reduce the US trade deficit with the European Union, including reducing customs duties on US exports to Europe or transferring European production to the United States.

Despite Trump’s recent threat to impose customs duties, European Union officials expressed cautious optimism that a framework agreement could be reached to calm the trade conflict after months of continuous talks.

Meanwhile, the ministers of the European Union Trade Countries agreed during their meeting yesterday that the customs duties that US President Donald Trump announced his intention to impose on the products of the European Union “completely unacceptable”, while studying a set of counter -measures that can be imposed on American products.

“It became very clear from today’s discussions that the (American) fees of 30% are not acceptable.”

He added that the Commission shares the twenty -seven -member states its proposals on the second list of American products imported by European Union countries with a value of about 72 billion euros (84 billion dollars), which will be imposed on additional fees on them in the event of Washington in advance in imposing their announced fees, indicating that member states will now have the opportunity to discuss them.

Meanwhile, Luc Luke Rasmussen, Denmark Foreign Minister, whose country is currently presidency of the European Union said that the European Union will continue to be prepared for a response, which includes taking strong and proportional counter -measures if necessary.
