"Sharjah for the book" 167 new addresses are based on translation and publishing support programs for the year 2025
Sharjah, July 18/ WAM/ The Sharjah Book Authority announced the adoption of 167 new addresses within its specialized programs to support publishing and translation for the year 2025, out of a total of 2478 that has been nominated within four months since the registration door was opened.
The titles based on 99 titles were distributed within the translation grant, and 20 titles through the Sharjah Fund for Publishing Sustainability, “Antriar”, along with 48 titles with direct support from the Sharjah Book Authority, in a move that reflects Sharjah’s continuous commitment to enhance the translation and publishing movement and support the horizon of exchanging knowledge between Arab content and its foreign counterpart.
These titles are added to the record of the continuous achievements of the authority, as the total address approved from the start of the initiative in 2011 until today reached 2405 titles in various cognitive and languages, which embodies the authority’s vision in building knowledge bridges between peoples and promoting global cultural diversity.
These initiatives are one of the most prominent axes of the authority’s strategy to support publishers, translators and authors around the world, and to provide an incubating environment for cognitive creativity and accelerate the movement of bilateral translation from and to Arabic, in order to enhance the presence of the Arab book in global markets and allow readers to reach multiple humanitarian and knowledge experiences in various languages.
His Excellency Ahmed bin Rakad Al -Amiri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority, said that Sharjah, led by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, believes that translation is a vital tool for communication between peoples and a way to enhance human understanding and openness to the other, and from this standpoint the authority continues its growing support for distinguished cultural and intellectual content through specialized programs, foremost of which is the translation grant provided by the authority to the work With the global spread of the consequences of Arab knowledge and creativity to the foreign reader and the availability of the global achievements of Arab readers in their mother tongue.
He added that the authority is working to translate this vision with the directives of Sheikha Badour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, the head of the authority, in expanding the scope of book support programs by launching qualitative initiatives that celebrate the most important titles and intellectual productions for creators around the world, and contribute to the development of the publishing and translation system at the regional and international levels.
He expressed pride that the Sharjah Support Program is witnessing a remarkable year after year in its mechanisms, fields and impact, reflecting the status that the emirate has reached as a global center for cultural exchange and an incubating environment for knowledge.
For his part, Mansour Al -Hassani, Director of Publishers Services Department at the Sharjah Book Authority, said that the number of requests received by the authority this year confirms the growing confidence of international publishers of the authority’s programs and their awareness of its value as an actual lever for the movement of translation and publishing not only at the local and Arab levels, but at the global level, stressing the authority’s keenness in each session to develop the mechanisms Readers for renewable and high -quality content.
The Sharjah Book Authority had launched a translation grant in 2011 to support publishers around the world in translating distinguished books into multiple languages, and the value of the grant reaches 4000 dollars for public books and $ 1500 for children’s books, with special grants of up to $ 250,000 for translations from Arabic or to them, and it includes the work of progress: novels, self -biographies, poetry, children’s books and cooking books, to be protected by publishing rights.
The Sharjah Fund for Publishing Sustainability aims to enhance the publishing industry in the UAE, by providing integrated support for publishers, which meets their needs and helps them continuity and sustainability, and supports them on their journey to enrich the cultural scene in the UAE, within three paths: launch, growth and innovation.
