"Wiko" The Emirati Publishers Association adopts an observer member during its annual meetings in Geneva

Sharjah, July 23/ WAM/ The International Organization for Intellectual Property (WIPO) adopted the Emirati Publishers Association as an observer member during the sixty -sixth General Assembly meetings held in Geneva during this July, with the participation of representatives from member states and organizations concerned with intellectual property rights around the world, in an international achievement that reflects the growing global position for the publishing sector in the UAE.
This accreditation gives the association the right to attend the meetings of the associations of member states in the “WIPO” and the federations it runs, in addition to participating in the committees, work teams and relevant sub -bodies, which allows them to contribute to discussions and the formulation of policies related to publishing and intellectual property rights at the international level.
Sheikha Badour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, founder and executive president of the Emirati Publishers Association, said that the association’s accession to the International Organization for Intellectual Property (WIPO) as an observer, represents a detailed station in the association’s march and the entire Arab publishing sector.
She explained: “This accession guarantees the delivery of the voices of our publishers and our creators in global discussions on intellectual property, and confirms our commitment to protecting creative rights and enhancing access to knowledge, innovation, and cultural diversity.”
For his part, His Excellency Rashid Al -Kous, Executive Director of the Emirati Publishers Association, expressed his pride in this accreditation, stressing that joining the World Intellectual Property Organization as an observer member represents an important station in the association’s march towards empowering publishers at the international level, and enhancing the position of the UAE as a regional center for publication and creativity.
He added that through this membership, the association seeks to enhance the protection of publishing rights and enable local publishing houses to reach broader horizons of cooperation and knowledge, pointing out that the association will continue to work to communicate the UAE’s voice in everything related to the publishing industry and intellectual property rights, and contribute to the development of the system of these rights in the Arab and globally to serve the future of creativity and content industry.
This achievement is the culmination of the pivotal role played by the Emirati Publishers Association in representing the publishing sector locally and regionally and providing professional support for the Emirati publishing houses in various Arab and international cultural forums.
This international recognition also comes at a time when the association seeks to develop the publishing system in the UAE, enhance the laws governing it, and expand the scope of legal protection for creative content.
The association includes in its membership more than 360 Emirati publishing houses, and works to advance the publishing profession and enhance the culture of reading, as well as support initiatives aimed at encouraging reading and fighting illiteracy by providing books and accessing knowledge.
Joining the WIPO is a new step in the association’s path towards expanding its impact, and active participation in formulating a more sustainable future for the creative sector in the Emirates and the Arab world.
