EasyJet criticizes the American company Casselec over a possible acquisition

British low-cost airline EasyJet described a potential acquisition by the American alternative investment firm Casselec as “very opportunistic,” stressing that it had not held talks with it, according to the British news agency “PA Media.”

Casselec revealed late last Friday, after the stock market closed in London, that it was in the early stages of studying an offer for EasyJet, but had not yet contacted the company’s board of directors.

The airline said that the acquisition comes at a time when its shares have declined due to fears of the impact of the Iran war on the aviation sector.

Yesterday, EasyJet added: “The Board of Directors notes the (highly opportunistic) timing, which coincides with the temporary decline in (EasyJet’s) share price due to the current situation in the Middle East, and its impact on consumer confidence and jet fuel prices.”

Luton-based EasyJet added that it “also notes the organizational, financial, and other major operational challenges associated with the potential acquisition of (EasyJet).” However, it stressed that it is its duty to increase shareholder value, indicating that it will study any proposal if it is presented to it.

It is noteworthy that the American company Casselec has until June 26 to submit a final offer or withdraw under British takeover rules.
