The Acting Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, said that the operations room received a report stating that the driver of the vehicle controls its speed, as a result of the failure of the cruise control and its continued walk without responding to the pedal of fuel or brakes.

He explained that the traffic patrols moved immediately to the site of the communication, where the location of the vehicle was determined and accompanied by an accurate and coordinated way, while the specialized teams took direct communication with the driver to guide it to the proper procedures that should be followed in such cases, in order to ensure its safety and the safety of other road users.

And that the patrols worked to secure the vehicle by establishing a safe passage in front of it and behind it, while removing other vehicles from its path to avoid any possible collision, indicating that thanks to the tight coordination and calm in dealing, the driver was able to stop the vehicle safely on the side of the road without recording any injuries or damage.

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan stressed that the speed of response and immediate coordination between the leadership and control center, and the field patrols had a decisive role in controlling the situation, praising the efficiency of traffic teams and their professionalism in dealing with such emergency incidents.

Brigadier Juma bin Suwaidan stressed the importance of drivers’ commitment to complete calm when exposed to a problem with the cruise control, connecting the seat belt and operating the quadruple warning lights and headlamps, with immediate communication with the emergency number “999” to explain the case accurately.

He indicated that in such cases it is advised to try to alleviate the vehicle speed by continuous and gradually pressure on the brakes, or convert the transmission to the neutral situation “N”, and if these attempts do not succeed, the hand brakes can gradually raise with the steering wheel tightly, and if the defect continues, the transmission can be moved between the positions of “N and D” several times in an attempt to reduce the speed, and if any of these steps succeed before the patrols reach, The vehicle must be stopped outside the road safely, and wait until the arrival of the competent authorities.
