المملكة: The manger is the green shield of Saudi Arabia .. Carbon stores 2650 cars and repels 90% of the waves

Two officials at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture branch in the Eastern Region confirmed that the mangrove forests deployed on the coast of the Kingdom represent one of the most important biological environmental systems and extremely important natural defense line in the face of the effects of climate change, noting their tremendous ability to store carbon and protect coastal areas from extremist weather phenomena.
The coast of the Kingdom is embraced on the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf, which is rich in mangroves, where the type of Crimea and the jelly grows on the Red Sea coast, while the type of Crimea grows on the coast of the Persian Gulf. An amazing biological diversity has been recorded in these environments that include at least 70 species of fish, 80 species of birds, and more than 170 species of crustaceans and mollusks, making their protection and development a national priority to achieving environmental sustainability.
Reducing the effects of climate change
In this context, the head of the Environmental Awareness and Enabling Capacity Department, Mounir Al -Sakhn specialist, explained that these forests play a pivotal role in alleviating the effects of climate change, where one hectare of mangrove trees can store approximately 3750 tons of carbon, which is equivalent to the removal of carbon emissions resulting from 2650 cars from the road for a whole year.

He added that these trees act as a natural barrier that reduces the high waves by 50 to 90 percent, which provides direct protection for coastal areas against storms and high sea levels.
For his part, the Director of the Environmental Department of the branch, Eng. Akram Al -Muhoon, pointed out that the environmental benefits of the mangrove forests go beyond that, as it constitutes a natural home for many living organisms, a nursery area and vital feeding for young fish and marine invertebrates, which directly contributes to enhancing marine biological diversity and the sustainability of fish wealth.

He pointed out that these forests also act as natural water purification filters from pollutants, as well as being a major attraction for environmental tourism thanks to the unique beauty of the beaches.
Natural benefits
The environment interested in the environment and the mangrove trees, the chemical engineer Hussein Al -Hajri, said that preserving the forests of mangroves is very important, as it is the largest long -term warehouse for carbon, as it stores about 93% of carbon dioxide located in the globe, this tree is one of the most important ingredients for environmental balance in the coast, as it has the magic stick of the marine and land environment.

And that it contributes to the balance of the coastal environment and provides its arms to the wild environment, so it stores carbon, maintains the strengthening of biological diversity, and is considered the first incubator of the marine environment. He explained that it has a role in sustaining fish wealth, which is an important economic tributary that supports food security. This tree can absorb carbon dioxide over more than 6 times the absorption of tropical forests.
He pointed out that the branches of the upper mangrove trees nest the birds in them, while the roots stick to the mollusks and live the young fish and the invertebrates on them, as they are combined to thousands of types of living organisms, they are food for fish and invertebrates, and in an indirect way that the human and the environment benefit from.
Among the stone, the mangroves works to improve the quality of water by purifying the water and absorbing the nutrients. Trees also absorb nitrogen, phosphorous and carbon from water, which reduces water pollution and improving the aquatic environment. Also, this trees have many benefits, one of its benefits that reduces global warming, as it reduces the severity of the waves by between 70 to 90 %.
