Donald Trump’s Scottish mother’s story!

In 1930, Marie Ann, 18, traveled to New York in search of work as a maid, and after six years she married Farid Trump, the son of German immigrants, and one of the most prominent real estate men in the city.
Mary Ann grew up in a large family of ten children. Her father is the owner of a shop and a post office, and the family was better than others in the village, but life on the island after the First World War was harsh, especially after the “Euer” disaster in 1919 that claimed the life of 200 local soldiers.
According to the historian of the genealogy, Bill Lawson, the only option for young people was migration, and her sister Catherine had a role in facilitating her travel to New York.
From a maid to a community of society
After working for a short period as a children’s setback, she met Farid Trump and married, and settled in the upscale Quinz neighborhood. Marie Ann became an American citizen in 1942, and she was involved in charitable works, but she kept her Gaeli language and was visiting Louis throughout her life.
Family heritage and tragedies
The history of the Mary An family carries a lot of sadness, as she lost her grandfather and her father in marine accidents, and her mother’s origins were from families who were expelled from her lands during the “Scottish cleansing” campaigns. Nevertheless, her family managed to keep her land in Tong, where her relatives still live there today, refusing to speak to the media.
On a seight visit in 2008, Donald Trump spent less than two minutes at his mother’s old home, and said at the time: “I am very busy building projects around the world, but I am happy that I came, and I will return again.” However, the inhabitants of the island did not feel a great impression behind him, unlike his federal judge, Marian Trump Barry, who was constantly visiting the family before her death in 2023.
The story of Mary Ann McLOD embodies a journey of poverty on a remote island to the life of richness and influence in New York, one of the thousands of stories about Scottish immigration that contributed to the formation of America. As for her son, she became president of the strongest country in the world twice … but he was never known for a strong relationship with his roots.
