Sharjah, on July 27 / WAM / His Excellency Issa Youssef, Director General of the Sharjah Antiquities Authority, confirmed that work in the authority does not stop after the global achievement of the inclusion of the “Al -Faya” site on the UNESCO World Heritage List, revealing future plans to highlight the exceptional value of other sites, most notably the Wadi Al -Helou site in the eastern region and the archaeological site of Maliha in the central region, teachers on the preliminary list of UNESCO.
In an interview with the Emirates News Agency “WAM”, Youssef explained that the success of the “Al -Fayyah” file came with scientific support from 13 out of 21 countries in the World Heritage Committee, which represents an international recognition of the originality and importance of the site, noting that this achievement achieves strategic gains for the UAE and Sharjah, where the region emerges as a pivotal part in human history, and encourages to attract specialized and sustainable cultural tourism, and provides job opportunities Various as specialized tourist guidance.
These goals are achieved, as his Excellency was mentioned, through close institutional cooperation, highlighted by the leading role of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority “Shurooq” through the “Maliha Antiquities Center”, and the role of the Environment and Natural Reserves Authority through “the geological park in Jabal Bahais” that provides multiple scientific roles, in addition to the important role played by the “Commercial and Tourist Development Authority in Sharjah” in strengthening tourist centers.
The Director General of the Sharjah Antiquities Authority reviewed the date of the file entitled “The Cultural Scene of Pre -Date Pay”, noting that the first discoveries were launched in 2003 by the German mission under the supervision of Dr. Sabah Jassim, then the site was included in the preliminary list in 2012, and in 2020, the file was reformulated to focus on the exceptional value of the site as the oldest desert settled by man in the ancient stone era, where it was proven Discoveries that the site of Jabal Al -Faya is the southern road of the Arabian Peninsula from 200 thousand years.
For its part, Kholoud Al -Huli Al -Suwaidi, Director of the Cultural Cultural Heritage Department at the authority told “WAM” that the site management plan was fully developed before the delivery of the nomination file, and that “Al -Faya” is characterized by being open and ready to receive visitors, unlike many other international sites, where the “Mleiha Center for Antiquities” receives them through special tours with coaches who are keen to change car paths every two weeks to avoid affecting the nature of the site.
Al -Suwaidi emphasized that the inclusion imposes a great commitment to submit annual preservation plans and periodic monitoring reports every five years of the World Heritage Center, to ensure the site protection for future generations, noting that this commitment is the product of work and studies that spanned decades.
Al Huli highlighted the unique scientific value of the site, as the Al -Faya mountain range consists of rare “Ofolite” rocks, which represent the ground, which makes it one of the three best sites in the world to study the geology of the Earth, and the most easy to reach it compared to the stone and hamlaya mountains.
The two officials stressed that this achievement is protected by an integrated legal and legislative system issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who provided unlimited support for the project, and with the support of the legal department and the Planning and Survey Department that provided urban development requirements in the protection zone, and a special thanks to the Sheikha Badour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Ambassador of the nomination file, was extended to its pivotal role Difficulties, for the efforts of 12 local circles that contributed to this achievement.
