Mexican horses are sparkling with traditional dresses under 40 degrees

Although heat sometimes reaches 40 degrees Celsius, a group of Mexican women continues to wear heavy and elegant dresses while performing graceful and dangerous maneuvers on the appearance of their horses, in amazing shows known as “Eskramoza”, which is part of the Mexican national “Charia” sport that is traditionally dominated by men.
This unique female show was documented by the American-Mexican photographer Adam Brito in his photographic project “La Luna Escondida” (the hidden moon), which aims to rediscover the Mexican heritage and highlight strength and femininity at the same time.
“I was not aware of this sport during my upbringing. Through the project, I discovered that many Mexican Americans did not know that she was practicing around them,” Brito said in an interview with CNN in Arabic.

Plannings perform various maneuvers in honor of fighters during the Mexican Revolution, with traditional dresses known as “Adelena”, relative to a folkloric figure of that era. Despite the difficulty of performing under heat, the participants confirm that “they never get used to it, but they learn how to coexist with him.”

Britto was not satisfied with documenting competitions, but also monitored intimate moments behind the scenes, such as braiding hair, supplication before entering the square, or helping to equip horses. The photographer says: “Empowerment does not only lie in horse performance, but in the collective effort and the spirit of the family that brings them together.”
Brito describes these pictures as a “love message for Mexico women”, stressing that his project has become more important at a time when Latin societies are exposed to repeated targeting.
