A warning a number of engineering consulting offices to exaggerate the construction designs for citizens’ villas

Dubai Municipality announced a warning to a number of engineering consulting offices after monitoring professional practices that included an exaggeration in the construction designs of the villas of citizens, in a way that contradicts the requirements of Dubai Building Code and leads to an unjustified increase in construction costs without proven engineering need.

This procedure comes after the Dubai Municipality issued a previous circulatory for all consulting offices in the emirate of the necessity of adhering to the Dubai Building Code, and adhering to the regulatory requirements and engineering standards approved, in a manner that ensures the achievement of structural efficiency without exaggerating the designs, within the framework of the Dubai Municipality’s keenness to organize the construction sector, enhance its competitiveness, and follow -up and monitor professional activities and practices to ensure quality Implementation and reducing financial burdens on the owners, and preserving the rights of all parties from the stakeholders.

Eng. Maryam Al -Muhairi, Executive Director of the Foundation for the Organization and License of Building in Dubai Municipality, said: “The commitment of the consulting offices to the Dubai Building Code is a professional and moral responsibility before it is an organizational commitment, aiming to achieve a balance between the quality of construction and low costs. Reducing the excessive use of building materials, including iron, or downloading additional unjustified costs, in order to achieve construction efficiency and reduce the cost without affecting safety and quality and ensures the application of the best standards to ensure a safe and sustainable building environment.

The Dubai Municipality called on the engineering consulting offices not to repeat these practices, in order to avoid its negative registration in the annual evaluation of the office, in addition to the disciplinary measures that will result in accordance with the regulations and regulations in force.

The municipality had announced earlier this year the suspension of two engineering consultants and prevented them from licensing any new projects for a period of (6) months, after monitoring professional practices that contradict the approved regulations, requirements and ethics of the profession, which may negatively affect the interests of the owners and developers.

Dubai Municipality is keen to organize the construction sector and raise the level of commitment to the requirements and standards adopted in the Dubai Building Code, and enhance competitiveness while reducing waste and unnecessary costs in a way that supports an attractive business environment and achieves the best quality levels.
