A division between Iranian negotiators and the Revolutionary Guard

American officials revealed that some members of President Donald Trump’s administration believe that there is a division in Iran regarding negotiations with the United States.
Speaking to the American CNN news network, officials pointed to a division between the Iranian negotiating team led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on the one hand, and the Revolutionary Guard, which is believed to be more militant, on the other hand.
According to the sources, this division raises questions about who is authorized to finally sign any potential agreement, if a second round of negotiations is held between Washington and Tehran.
Some Trump administration officials also acknowledged that the US President’s public statements hurt the negotiations, pointing to their sensitivity and the Iranians’ deep lack of confidence in the United States.
A source familiar with the negotiations told CNN: “The Iranians did not like Trump resorting to social media platforms to negotiate, and making it appear as if they had agreed to items they had not yet agreed to, and items that were not popular with the Iranian people.”
“Iranians are particularly concerned about appearing weak,” he explained.
