Vance heads to Pakistan today for talks on Iran

In a high-level diplomatic move, informed American sources reported that US Vice President J.D. Vance intends to head to the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, by Tuesday morning, in an attempt to break the diplomatic impasse and reach an agreement to end the ongoing conflict with Iran. Vance’s visit comes at a very critical time, as his arrival coincides with the expiration of the current truce.

Under time pressure, President Donald Trump has hinted at returning to the military option, threatening to launch a massive air campaign targeting critical infrastructure in Iran, unless tangible progress is made in the negotiations.

Although it is difficult to reach a “comprehensive deal” within hours, indications suggest that the US administration may grant an additional period, provided that there are serious intentions for a solution.

The past few hours witnessed cautious international anticipation, as Tehran delayed sending its negotiating team as a result of pressure from the Revolutionary Guard, which stipulated that the American blockade be lifted before sitting at the negotiating table. However, extensive mediation succeeded in convincing the Iranian side to attend.

The American representation will not only be limited to the Vice President, but Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s envoys, are scheduled to join the talks, which reflects the utmost importance that Washington attaches to this round.
