More than a million interactions with "Dubai legacy" Within 6 months

Dubai, August 27 / WAM / The “Dubai Heritage” initiative, one of the most prominent and largest societal and cultural initiatives launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai, continues to receive thousands of participants from citizens and residents on the land of Dubai through its website and its digital platforms. The initiative has witnessed since its inception last February a wide turnout from different groups of society, and more than a million people interacted with it in addition to registering more than 5,000 participations and expanded documentation to this day, which included stories and traditional novels that embody the features of life in Dubai over decades.
The posts received by the platform showed multiple aspects of the history of the emirate, by highlighting personal experiences that carry values, customs and traditions that formed the features of society. Among these posts have emerged stories documenting the stages of the renaissance that Dubai witnessed in the fields of economics, education, trade, and arts, in addition to novels that generations inherited from the life of the sea, the hunting craft, the ship industry, and life in the old neighborhoods.
The “Dubai Heritage” platforms on social media also witnessed a great interaction, as the publications and interactive digital content contributed to motivating members of society to share their old novels and pictures, which strengthened the momentum and spread of the initiative on a large scale, and made them the focus of cultural and media circles.
Ahmed Saeed Al -Sharad, the general coordinator of the initiative, praised the great support that the initiative enjoys from the wise leadership, stressing that the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God bless him, and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum represent the foundation stone in supporting efforts to document the history of Dubai and highlighting future generations.
Al -Sharad said that the results achieved during the first months of the start of the initiative reflect the community’s awareness of the importance of preserving its history, and its awareness of the value of the moral and material heritage that constitutes the identity of Dubai, and the unlimited support from leadership is the main driver of this success, as His Highness’s vision sets a clear framework to make documenting the history of the emirate an integrated national project that includes everyone.
Al -Sharad added that we are still in the early stages of the legacy of Dubai, and the initiative continues to expand with the support of the wise leadership, and we will work during the next stage to expand the scope of posts and documentation mechanisms to be accessible to all, which establishes Dubai’s position as a city that documents its past and celebrates its present for its future.
Al -Sharad announced the launch of the new “Dubai Heritage” application on smartphones, which aims to expand the scope of participation in the initiative, to make it accessible to everyone at any time and anywhere. The application provides an easy use interface that allows the participants to download their novels and stories, whether it is written or recorded, in addition to the ability to attach historical images and documents, indicating that the application will contribute to accelerating the process of collecting and documenting data, and linking the posts to a unified interactive platform, which enhances the quality of the outputs and the speed of publishing them.
In the context of encouraging emerging groups to interact with the initiative, the “Dubai’s legacy” organized an honorary event for students participating in the “Challenge of Schools”, which is one of the sub -paths of the initiative, which witnessed a wide student participation from various educational levels. During the event, a number of students whose participation were distinguished by documenting real stories about their parents and grandparents, which reflects the keenness of the new generation to communicate with its local and national heritage.
The initiative is welcomed by the participation of citizens and residents, to contribute to documenting stories and experiences that embody the features of life in Dubai at the various stages of its development. It also calls on all members of society to provide their content through the electronic platform or the new smart application.
The launch of the “Dubai Heritage” initiative, one of the largest community documentary movements of its kind, comes within a series of strategic initiatives led by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, concerned with documenting the history of the emirate and preserving its cultural heritage, foremost of which is the project to establish the National Archives of the Emirate of Dubai, which is under the supervision of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library.
