Sudan – Guterres expresses the alarm about the ongoing attacks on the city of El Fasher

A statement attributed to his spokesman issued today, Friday, stated that the city of El Fasher has been subjected to a suffocating siege for more than 500 days, as hundreds of thousands of civilians in the region are besieged.

He added that the last weeks have witnessed a semi -continuous bombardment of the region, and a repeated fatal incursion in the Abu Shok camp for the displaced, where the circumstances of starvation there were announced in December 2024. Since August 11, the United Nations has documented the killing of at least 125 civilians in the Fasher region, including executions of brief procedures, and the number of actual deaths is likely to be higher than that.

Guterres expressed concern about the grave dangers of severe violations of international humanitarian law, as well as violations and transgressions of international human rights law, including tribal motives.

The statement pointed out that the supplies were prepared in a place nearby, but the efforts of the United Nations and its partners to transfer them to El -Fasher are still facing obstacles. He added that recent months have witnessed repeated attacks on humanitarian workers and humanitarian assets in North Darfur.

The Secretary -General called for an immediate ceasefire in and around the Al -Fasher region, stressing the need to take immediate steps to protect civilians and enable the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region safely and without obstacles and sustainable, and to allow any civilian who wants to leave the area voluntarily to leave safely.

The statement stated that the Personal Envoy of the Secretary -General, Ramtan Lamamra, is continuing to communicate with the warring parties, and he is ready to support sincere efforts to stop violence and establish a comprehensive political process demanded by the people of Sudan.
