On Sunday, September 7, a committee of senior critics and cinema writers in Egypt will decide the name of the film, which will represent Egypt in the competition in the Oscar Award for Best Foreign Film Film, after the committee chose, earlier this week, 7 films out of about 345 candidates, shown between October 2024 and September 2025.
And the seven films, chosen, are: “Dai” directed by Karim El -Shennawi, starring Aseel Omran, and “Jawa and No funeral” by Princess Diab, starring Nelly Karim, and “searching for an outlet for the exit of Mr. Rambo” by Khaled Mansour, starring Issam Omar, and “I raised my eyes to the sky” directed by Ayman Al -Amir and Nada Riad, and starring Magda Masoud, For director Taghreed Abdel -Maqsoud Abu Al -Hassan, starring Maryam Sharif, “Al -Hawa Sultan” directed by Heba Yousry, starring Menna Shalaby, and “Sharq 12”, directed by and starring Hala Al -Qusi.

The selection of the film will be followed by the stage of watching it, along with the films that are nominated from all countries of the world, by a specialized committee in the American Academy of Animated Arts and Sciences, which is the organizer of the “Oscars” awards, where the committee will announce the names of the films that arrived at the long list at the end of next December, provided that the same committee returns to announce the names of the five films nominated for the short list, at the end of January 2026.
The candidate filmmakers will be found at the 198th Essential Awards, which will be held on Sunday 15 March 2026, at the Hollywood Dolby Theater.
The critic Tariq Al -Shennawi said, in press statements, that one of the most important criteria for choosing the film nominated to compete from each country is to have been shown publicly and commercially, at the end of the end of September 2025, a condition that applies to six out of seven films, where the movie “A Vacation and No Funeral” is scheduled to be shown in the last week of this month.

Al -Shennawi pointed to the disparity and contrast at the level of the list of the 35 films, which were seen, pointing to the consensus of the test committee on the seven films, which reached the last list, and among them will be chosen by the film that will represent Egypt.
The “Oscar” award is an international recognition of excellence in cinematic achievements, according to the evaluation of members of the voting in the academy, and the award in each of its categories is the highest appreciation and achievement in the field of global cinema industry, where the winners of different categories are granted a copy of a golden statue, officially called the “Oscar for Excellence Award”, although it is referred to more commonly in the name of “Oscars”, and depicts the statue The Art Deco style.

It is noteworthy that the last Egyptian movie was nominated for the Academy Awards in the 97th session, “Journey 404”, starring Mona Zaki, Mohamed Mamdouh, Mohamed Farraj, Sherine Reda, Khaled Al -Sawy, and directed by Hani Khalifa.
