Basketball/ Strategy for Club Development and Promoting the presence of our national teams

Dubai, September 6 / WAM / Basketball is one of the most prominent team sports in the UAE, which has witnessed since its inception in the 1970s a remarkable development at the level of clubs and national teams, to achieve a distinguished presence at the regional level, and the manufacture of a number of stars who left their mark in the game’s march locally and abroad.
The game knew its spread with the establishment of the major sports clubs in the country, to start the league and cup championships in drawing the features of the local competition, and contributed to the emergence of prominent players in the memory of the fans such as Adel Saqr, Qasim Muhammad, Hamdan Saeed, and Ali Abbas Al -Hattawi, and other stars who contributed to raising the UAE banner in the Gulf and Arab championships, and the national teams managed to win important achievements, most notably winning the championship of the Gulf championship, And participating in Arab and continental tournaments such as the Asian and Youth World Cup.
On the level of clubs, ancient clubs such as Al -Wahda, Al -Nasr, Al -Ahly, Al -Wasl and Sharjah succeeded in achieving many local titles, and participating in a distinct way in the foreign championships.
With the formation of the new Emirates Basketball Federation Board of Directors of His Excellency Abdel Latif Al -Fardan, aspirations are renewed towards a new stage aimed at spreading the game and expanding the base of its practitioners, with a focus on the cubs, young people and youth, and the preparation of comprehensive development programs for rulers and coaches, in addition to enhancing the presence of national teams in the upcoming regional and continental entitlements.
The new council attaches special importance to activating the 3 x 3 league in line with the global development of the game, and supporting women’s basketball by providing an attractive environment for championships, as well as intensifying societal events that contribute to consolidating the game’s position and enhancing its presence in the emirates of the state.
The sports street hopes that these aspirations and future vision will be reflected in the development of Emirati basketball in the next stage, which will restore it to the coronation platforms, and support its position at the regional and international levels.
His Excellency Abdullatif Al -Fardan, Chairman of the Emirates Basketball Association, said that the new council is looking forward to moving forward in the process of developing the game, with completing the efforts achieved by the previous council, stressing its keenness to sponsor clubs and support them in external participation and increase the number of players to serve the national teams and enhance their presence in regional and international championships.
He explained that the priority of the council in the next stage is to expand the base of the game practitioners, especially from the category of Sunni and young stages, in a way that contributes to making a promising generation that guarantees the sustainability of Emirati basketball successes.
For his part, Hamdan Al -Zaabi, Assistant Secretary -General of the Emirates Basketball Federation, stressed that the council will continue its work with the same ambition and desire to achieve achievements and build on what was achieved in the previous session.
He explained that the council approved in its first meeting a “road map” for the work process during the next stage, which includes new ideas and various programs for preparing national teams, developing local competitions and championships, and supporting the participation of teams in external entitlements, indicating that basketball competitions 3 x 3 will also receive more attention and development during the coming period, provided that the implementation of this plan begins on the ground with the start of the work of the new council.
Ghalia Abdullah Ibrahim, a member of the Board of the Emirates Basketball Federation and Chairman of the Women’s Committee, said that empowering women in the field of basketball game will not be limited to administrative representation, but will extend to the provision of a supportive environment that allows Emirati mathematics to highlight their talents and achieve their aspirations, explaining that the priorities of the women’s committee in the next stage include supporting national teams, expanding the UAE base for basketball through community activities, and raising The level of competition in local championships, which enhances the presence of the game and gives it the momentum it deserves.
