The number of asylum applications in Austria decreased by 36.7% during the first half

Vienna on September 8/ WAM/ The number of asylum applications in Austria decreased significantly since the beginning of this year, and the number decreased during the first half of the year by 36.7%, compared to the same period last year, and the number of asylum requests at the level of European Union countries decreased by 23%, during the same period.

The Austrian Ministry of Interior announced that 8,637 asylum applications were received, during the first half of 2025, a decrease of 36.7%, compared to an annual basis.

Georhard Carner, the Austria Minister of Interior, attributed this decline to the application of a more strict, organized and just asylum policy, including tightening border control, adopting new laws, and tightening asylum policy regulations, pointing to important measures, most notably a ban on refugee families, and obliging asylum seekers, who are 16 years old and more, to perform community services.
