Because of Gaza … artists pledge to boycott Israel’s cinematic institutions

More than 1,800 entertainment and productive actors and artist, including some Hollywood stars, signed a pledge issued yesterday, Monday, not to work with Israeli cinematic institutions that they see as involved in the violations committed by Israel against the Palestinians.

Some companies faced calls to boycott and protests due to their relations with the Israeli government with the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza as a result of the Israeli military attack on the Strip, and the pictures of the Palestinians who are starving, including children, which have sparked global anger.

“A drawing from” united filmmakers against the apartheid “who refused to show their films in South Africa while they were practicing the apartheid, we pledge not to display films, appear in or work with Israeli cinematic institutions – including festivals, cinemas, broadcasting institutions and production companies – which are involved in collective genocide and racial separation against the Palestinian people.”

The pledge stated that no one urges to stop working with the Israelis, but rather that “the invitation is directed to filmmaking workers to refuse to work with Israeli institutions involved in Israel’s violations of human rights.”

He added that the Israeli cinematic institutions participated in “camouflaging or justifying” violations that the Palestinians are exposed to.

He pointed to the opinion of the International Court of Justice, which was issued last year that the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories is illegal, and the assessments of many human rights experts and researchers that the Israeli military attack on Gaza reaches the level of genocide.

Among the representatives signed by the undertaking Olivia Coleman, Emma Stone, Mark Ravalo, Tilda Swinton, Riz Ahmed, Javier Bardem and Sinthia Nixon.

The government of Israel previously rejected the calls of boycotting Israeli institutions and described them as discriminatory.

The attack by Israel on Gaza killed tens of thousands, displaced all the residents of Gaza and caused a hunger crisis.

Last week, the movie “Voice of Hind Ragab”, a film about a five -year -old Palestinian girl who was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza last year, received a warm welcome at the Venice Film Festival. The two stars, Brad Pitt Wawkin Phoenix, are among the producers executing the film.
