Headed by Abdullah Al Hamid/ Emirates Media Council holds its third meeting

Abu Dhabi, September 23/ WAM/ The Board of Directors of the Emirates Media Council held its third meeting in the year 2025, headed by His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamid, Chairman of the National Media Office, Chairman of the Emirates Media Council, to discuss a number of policies, legislations and organizational initiatives aimed at developing the media sector, foremost of which is the framework of enabling local content.
His Excellency Abdullah Al Hamed stressed that these policies and legislation come within the framework of keeping pace with the rapid transformations in the global media scene, and enhancing the role of the media as a vital sector that contributes to supporting the national economy and keeps pace with the future aspirations of the state, noting that these measures come a translation of the vision of rational leadership that seeks to build an integrated and modern media system, capable of innovation and ability to compete globally, and enhance the state’s position Regionally and internationally, through a responsible and influential media that supports the sustainable development process.
His Excellency stressed that the next stage will witness the launch of qualitative initiatives and incentives supporting the local content, in order to ensure the strengthening of the global competitiveness of the UAE in the field of media.
During its meeting, the Council reviewed the framework of enabling local content, which is an essential axis in new policies, and aims to raise the contribution of local media content in the national economy by supporting its production and development, and enhancing a role in preserving the national identity and highlighting the UAE culture globally, in addition to empowering creators and entrepreneurs in the fields of media and innovation.
The Council also discussed the organizational mechanisms to provide incentives for national works, among them exemptions from some fees, such as exemption from the cinematic fees for local cinematic works, exemption from fees for reviewing cinematic and theatrical texts and issuing the necessary permits for them, issuing a free -class classification certificate for local works, and granting priority to technical works in granting them the necessary approvals and permits.
The council also reviewed the developments of a “declared” statement since its launch, as more than 1,800 content maker has been registered with the aim of organizing the digital advertising industry and ensuring compliance with the standards of media content and protecting consumers from misinformation.
The Council reviewed the outputs of the age classification session of the media content, in which strategic partners, parents and youth participated, and aimed at studying international best practices and formulating a comprehensive guide for age classification based on the principles of transparency, protection and suitability.
The council also discussed the organizational framework for licensing digital platforms that provide news or advertising services through social media and modern platforms, with the aim of ensuring the provision of responsible and balanced content that respects societal values and protects the public from misinformation, while supporting the digital and news media industry as an active sector in strengthening the national economy.
The meeting was attended by members of the Emirates Media Council, Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, His Excellency Maryam Eid Al Muhairi, Head of Abu Dhabi Media Office, His Excellency Tariq Al Ala Al Naqbi, Director General of the Media Office of the Sharjah Government, His Excellency Nasser Mohamed Al Yamahi, Director General of the Fujairah Culture and Information Authority, His Excellency Mohamed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary General of the Emirates Media Council, and His Excellency Maitha Majid Al Suwaidi, Strategy and media policies, Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Media Council.
