According to reports, the attack on the mosque killed at least 75 worshipers while performing Fajr prayer last Friday, and the mission warned that civilians were still facing a great threat as the area continued.

The head of the mission, Muhammad Shendi Othman, said that the killing of civilians, including children, said, “During the prayer in the mosque, it appears flagrant ignorance of the most important principles of international law.” He called for holding the officials accountable.

This attack was the most destructive in a series of attacks on religious and cultural sites carried out by both the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces, all of which may rise to war crimes, according to a statement issued by the fact -finding mission today, Wednesday.

In this context, Joy Naguzi Iszelo, an expert in the mission, said: “The places of worship must be ancient and not goals. This attack deepens the shock of societies that are already suffering from hunger, displacement and sexual violence. The world cannot turn a blind eye while civilians are attacked in the holiest places.”

For its part, the expert in the mission, Mona Rashmawi, said that The rich and varied religious and cultural fabric ” In Sudan, it is part of its joint heritage, adding that the deliberate attacks on worshipers, mosques, churches and cultural sites “It threatens to erase identity and dignity.”

It is worth noting that the Human Rights Council established an independent international fact mission in October 2023 to investigate the alleged violations and transgressions committed in the context of the conflict that broke out in Sudan in April of that year.
