The Roads and Communications Authority has adopted an integrated organizational framework for the adoption of heavy self -driving vehicles for logistical transport in the Emirate of Dubai, which includes all the standards of activity, which relate to licensing procedures, evaluation of the initial experiences of the operation, and the standards of technologies used in it, and other requirements, which will contribute to ensuring the safety of road users and drivers, and the frame is a leading step towards the future of transportation Self -driving in the Emirate of Dubai, and the framework was prepared in coordination and cooperation with strategic partners, private sector companies, distributors and retail companies in the field of logistical transport.

Innovative and sustainable transport solutions

His Excellency Matar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Authority, stressed that the adoption of the organizational framework for operating heavy self -driving vehicles in the Emirate of Dubai comes a translation of the vision of good leadership (may God protect it), in promoting the global competitiveness of the Emirate of Dubai as a leading center for money, business and economics, and support for the Dubai Economic Agency (D33), and the framework constitutes a qualitative step towards achieving the goals of Dubai’s intelligent strategy for self -driving strategy. Converting 25% of the total transport trips in the emirate into self -driving trips by 2030, and strengthens Dubai’s position as a leading global city in adopting future technologies and developing innovative and sustainable transport solutions.

He said: “The organizational framework is an essential focus in supporting the logistical transport sector, by harnessing the techniques of self -driving to raise the efficiency of operations, reduce carbon emissions, and promote traffic safety, indicating that the trade and logistical transport sector is one of the vital sectors in the Emirate of Dubai, and the number of heavy vehicles is 61,290 vehicles, weighing between 3.5 tons and 65 Tana.

Double the sector’s contribution

He added: “The organizational framework for the adoption of heavy self -driving vehicles for logistical transport is part of the trade and logistical transportation strategy in the Emirate of Dubai 2030, which was adopted by the Dubai government, and aims to double the direct contribution to the commercial and logistical transport sector in the emirate’s economy, to 16.8 billion dirhams, and raise the rate of technology adoption in the infrastructure of the sector by 75%, and reduce Carbon emissions by 30%, and improving the efficiency of operation, by 10%, as well as organizing and governing the commercial transport sector, by identifying development and innovative opportunities in the sector and making sure that its goals of the relevant legislation and policies.

Al -Tayer stressed that Dubai is one of the most prepared cities to adopt self -driving transportation, thanks to its advanced infrastructure, and its adoption of the latest international standards, the latest communication networks, and other capabilities to support the adoption of smart vehicles, expressing his hope that the institutions and companies operating in the commercial and logistical transport sector in Dubai, and representatives of international companies, in preliminary experiences to adopt future transportation that raise the level of the sector and enhance the level of the sector Its competition at the regional and international levels.

Project stages

The integrated regulatory framework for adopting heavy vehicles has been prepared for logistical transportation, in two phases, the first included defining the most important axes and trends, compliance with safety requirements, promoting sustainability, creating a more attractive sector for investors, achieving leadership in adopting technology, preparing standards for licensing heavy self -driving vehicles, while the second stage of the project included setting five initial tracks For the experimental stage of the project, the areas of Jebel Ali, the Al Maktoum International Airport, the railway shipping station in the port of Jebel Ali, the Dubai Investment Complex, and Ibn Battuta Mall, will be subject to control areas, with the presence of a safety driver, and other specific paths without a driver.

Strategy alignment

The commercial and logistical transport strategy in the Emirate of Dubai 2030 is directly with 6 of the current specialized strategies: the traffic safety strategy, the self -driving strategy, a public transport strategy in Dubai, the asset strategy, the investment strategy, the digital strategy, and the strategy includes 17 projects, which contributes to supporting the growth of the sector and companies.

Logisti platform

The Roads and Communications Authority, in cooperation with the Tarir Company, launched the leading digital platform in the “Logisti” shipping, in partnership with the private sector, to provide commercial transport services to customers and the business sector, management of the fleet of logistical commercial transport vehicles, and the provision of reservation and tracking service, and its launch contributes to the creation of a qualitative shift in the logistical sector, and the strengthening of Dubai’s position as a leading destination for logistical services At the level of the region, redefine the process of transporting goods in Dubai, linking dealers to commercial transport services providers, and improving user service, by providing services that are characterized by efficiency, ease and reliability.
