"Council of Muslim Elders": Caring for the elderly and appreciating their giving is a religious and moral duty

Abu Dhabi on October 1/ WAM/ The Council of Muslim Elders stressed that celebrating the International Day of the Elderly, which falls on the first of October of each year, is not just a symbolic occasion, but a station to remind the status of the elderly, appreciate their extended giving, and recognize their thanks to building societies, raising generations and safeguarding values.
The council said in a statement on this occasion, that Islam is the first to the elderly a high position; He stressed that their care is a religious, moral and community duty, reflecting the authenticity of the human values that urge mercy and charity.
He stressed the importance of caring for the elderly and preserving their dignity, as they are the memory of human societies that preserve their identity and accumulated experiences, and a living record of wisdom and experiences, noting that the transfer of wisdom and experience across generations enhances the immunity of societies in front of crises, and establishes a balanced future.
He noted the necessity of enacting legislation and policies that guarantee a decent life for the elderly, and to provide them with health, social and psychological care, and to activate their integration programs into society, in appreciation of their status and enhancing their right to dignity.
The Council of Muslim Elderly attaches great importance to the rights of the elderly, as last May, in partnership with the Catholic Church and the American Association of Retired Persons, was launched a global document to support the elderly and preserve their dignity.
The document includes a unified vision, based on the necessity of strengthening joint efforts to support the elderly and their right to independence and full participation in society, and protect them from all forms of discrimination, abuse, exploitation and neglect, which they may be exposed to, work to address them, in addition to enabling them to take the appropriate options for themselves and their families, and obtain high -quality health care, focuses on their personal needs, and takes into account Their individual choices.
