"New York Abu Dhabi" Establishes the Institute for Global Financial Competitiveness

ABU DHABI, 9 October / WAM / The Stern School of Business at New York University Abu Dhabi announced the establishment of the Global Financial Competitiveness Institute, a new research project that uses data science to study and classify international financial centers around the world.

The Institute is based at the Stern School of Business at New York University Abu Dhabi and brings together a global team of researchers and advisors with the support of Ray Dalio, the famous investor and founder of Bridgewater Associates, who has devoted decades to studying the global economic system and its changing dynamics. His participation is a confirmation of the Institute’s ambition to provide world-leading perspectives to the study of international finance.

The Institute for Global Financial Competitiveness promotes research into the evolving global economic system, with a focus on the role of international financial centers.

Based on the foundations of advanced data science, the Institute works to evaluate and classify international financial centers around the world, to provide a unique perspective on the competitiveness of these centers, their influence, and their contribution to global markets.

His Excellency Ahmed Jassim Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi, said: We welcome the decision of the Stern School of Business at NYU Abu Dhabi to establish the Institute for Global Financial Competitiveness in Abu Dhabi, which represents a pivotal moment in applying data science to understand the real situation of financial centers around the world.

Robert Solomon, Dean of the Stern School of Business at NYU Abu Dhabi, noted that the establishment of this institute is consistent with Stern’s mission at NYU to research, teach, and engage in topics critical to global economic growth and development.

The Institute will issue its inaugural index of the competitiveness of global financial centers during the Global Markets Summit in Abu Dhabi Financial Week, which will be held in the country on December 8.

The Global Financial Competitiveness Institute represents a unique combined application of academic rigor, industry expertise and data-driven insight.

By creating a systematic standard for international financial centres, the Institute will provide officials, policymakers and investors with an evidence-based framework for dealing with the changing dynamics of global finance.

The Institute is supported by the Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi, and its establishment underscores NYU Abu Dhabi’s Stern School commitment to placing research where global economic transformations are most evident.
