Macron welcomes a historic agreement between Israel and Hamas

French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the historic agreement concluded in Sharm El-Sheikh in the Arab Republic of Egypt between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement.

 

In a speech he delivered at the beginning of the ministerial meeting on “The Day After” After the war in Gaza, Macron described this agreement as “historic,” and said: “It is a decisive day for the Palestinian and Israeli peoples, for the Middle East region and for everyone who supports peace and security in the region.”

He also congratulated his American counterpart, Donald Trump, who launched the peace plan between Israel and the Palestinian Strip, the first phase of which was approved, according to Tel Aviv and all Mediators in the negotiations.

He explained that this historic agreement comes after two years of hostage-taking, and after two years of untold suffering suffered by the Palestinians in Gaza, and stressed the importance of this agreement allowing a permanent ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and the immediate arrival of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and he said that the coming hours will be decisive in this regard.

In In his speech, Macron also stated that Hamas must fulfill its promises to release the hostages, considering that “the work and responsibilities do not stop at this first step,” which is the signing of the first phase of the peace plan. He said that the meeting currently held in Paris to discuss this matter aims to work in parallel with the American initiative, stressing that “President Trump has charted an ambitious path to reach a comprehensive agreement in the Middle East,” calling for support for the efforts of the American president. This was launched by an international force to stabilize Gaza in cooperation with Jordan and Egypt. He explained that France is ready to play a role in this regard.

On the other hand, the French President stressed that the accelerating pace of settlement in the West Bank “constitutes an existential threat to the Palestinian state.”

He added in his speech, “This is not only unacceptable and contrary to international law, but it also fuels tensions, violence, and instability, and even contradicts The American plan and our common ambition for a peaceful region. "Identifying collective commitment mechanisms" Towards the activation of the Palestinian state following its recent recognition by Western countries, according to French diplomatic sources.
