المملكة: Urgent: The United Nations chooses the Kingdom as a global model for water management


The Deputy Minister confirmed The United Nations has chosen it as a global model to be emulated in quickly achieving the sixth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Engineer Al-Mushaiti revealed, during his speech at the eighth Cairo Water Week, that the index of integrated water resources management in the Kingdom jumped from 57% to 83%, as a result of comprehensive strategic efforts.

Issue Development

He explained that this transformation came from the Kingdom’s belief that the water issue is no longer just a developmental issue, but rather a fundamental pillar of life and development, and one of the pillars of Saudi Vision 2030.

His Excellency reviewed the steps that led to this achievement, noting that the Kingdom has completely restructured the water sector to raise efficiency, and established transparent governance and an environmentally friendly environment. Water Projects

Today, the Saudi Water Partnership Company manages an investment portfolio worth more than 47 billion riyals, with a daily production of about 10 million cubic meters of desalinated water, and 600 thousand cubic meters of treated wastewater.

At the level of innovation, Build shares Modern technologies in desalination plants achieve a 70% improvement in efficiency, while reducing the cost by 50%, in accordance with international best practices.

Facing Challenges

Al-Mushaiti pointed out that the water sector faces major global challenges, such as climate change, population growth, and the decline of groundwater reserves, stressing that the Kingdom will continue its efforts to confront these challenges by investing in green solutions. And smart, and enhancing joint action through pioneering initiatives such as the “Prince Sultan International Water Award” and the establishment of the “World Water Organization”, which is headquartered in Riyadh.

At the conclusion of his speech, the Deputy Minister issued an official invitation to the international community to participate in the Eleventh World Water Forum, which Riyadh will host in 2027, to be a prominent station for unifying international efforts and launching constructive initiatives that support water security. And sustainable development for all peoples of the world.
