Learn the details of the handover of Israeli hostages from Gaza

Attention is turning to the Gaza Strip today, with anticipation of the implementation of a new round of prisoner exchanges, within the framework of the armistice agreement with Israel, which has entered its third day.

Israeli and Palestinian sources suggested that the implementation would begin at eight in the morning local time (6:00 GMT) in two successive rounds, the second at nine, with the full release being completed by twelve noon according to the terms of the agreement, according to the Israeli Channel 12.

The operation is taking place in four successive stages agreed upon between the two sides under international supervision. The first includes Hamas handing over the prisoners to Red Cross convoys consisting of about nine vehicles, including a minibus and ambulances, at three different points within the Strip, including Gaza City, Khan Yunis, and the central camps.

As for the second stage, the Red Cross will transfer the prisoners to a special unit of the Israeli army inside the Gaza Strip, in preparation for their official return to Israel within the framework of strict security arrangements.

The third stage includes transferring the prisoners after they cross the border to a special reception site at the “Ra’im” military base, where they undergo initial medical examinations and meet representatives of their families in a closed and secured environment.

In the fourth stage, the released prisoners are transferred via helicopter to Sheba, Ichilov and Beilinson hospitals, to undergo comprehensive examinations and reunite them with their extended families under the supervision of specialized medical teams.

In the same context, Israeli military sources confirmed that the army will receive the remains of a number of those killed during the operation, to be transferred to the forensic headquarters to conduct the process of identifying the bodies.

Hamas had indicated that finding all the bodies would take time, while Israel stressed continuing its efforts to recover all the dead and missing, with the participation of a special international team charged with identifying burial places and verifying identity.

In exchange for 20 living Israeli hostages, Israel is supposed to release 250 Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment, and 1,700 detainees in Gaza after the October 2023 war.
