A historic discovery of natural gas in the Jizza offshore field

Kuwait Oil Company announced the achievement of a new exploration achievement in the Kuwaiti offshore region, represented by the discovery of the Jizzah offshore natural gas field, which recorded the highest production rate for a vertical well from the Manaqish layer in the history of Kuwait, as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to develop the country’s hydrocarbon resources.
This discovery comes as a continuation of a series of successive successes in marine exploration, which previously included the discovery of the Noukhadha field in July 2024, and the Al-Julaiah field in January 2025, which reflects the qualitative progress in marine exploration operations.
The results of the initial tests of the well (Jazza-1) showed an exceptional production of more than 29 million cubic feet per day of gas, and more than 5,000 barrels per day of condensate, with the reservoir being characterized by a low percentage of carbon dioxide gas, and being free of hydrogen sulfide gas and associated water, which makes it one of the rare discoveries environmentally and technically.
The initial area of the field is estimated at about 40 square kilometers, while estimates indicate the presence of about 1 trillion cubic feet of gas and more than 120 million barrels of condensate, equivalent to about 350 million barrels of oil equivalent. The company confirmed that these numbers are preliminary, with the possibility of increasing them through expansion of exploration operations in other reservoirs within the field.
In a statement, the Minister of Oil and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Tariq Al-Roumi, said, “This discovery is a strategic step within the vision of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and Kuwait Oil Company for the year 2040, which aims to enhance national energy security and increase production, as work is currently underway to accelerate the development of the discovered offshore fields and introduce them into the production system, which contributes to advancing economic growth and providing new job opportunities for national competencies.
For his part, the CEO of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Sheikh Nawaf Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah, expressed his pride in this achievement, saying: “These discoveries reflect the competence of the national cadres who have proven their technical and professional competence in delving into unprecedented oil fields, and confirm the quality of the Kuwaiti barrel in terms of low emissions, which reflects a long-term strategic vision towards a sustainable economy and a secure future.” for energy.
The Chairman of the Kuwait Oil Company, Ahmed Al-Eidan, also praised the efforts of the company’s employees in achieving promising hydrocarbon discoveries, stressing that these achievements were the result of embodying the values of excellence, innovation, and working as a single team. He stressed that the company will continue to move towards development and leadership.
