The Louvre robbery shows our failure

French Minister of Justice, Gerard Darmanin, said today, “The theft of jewelry from the Louvre Museum gave a very negative image of France, which reflected a failure in the security services.”

Darmanin said, in an interview with France Inter radio: “There are many museums in Paris, many museums in France, with priceless values.”

He added: “It is certain that we failed,” adding that the French police would eventually arrest the perpetrators of the crime.

The Louvre Museum in Paris is scheduled to reopen its doors at 09:00 local time (07:00 GMT) today, after thieves stole priceless jewelry from the collection of Napoleon and Empress Eugenie, but part of the exhibition will be closed, according to French media.

Yesterday, French media reported that thieves broke into the Louvre Museum in Paris and stole 9 out of 23 pieces of jewelry on display, including brooches, necklaces, and crowns.

Paris Public Prosecutor Laure Picot later stated that there were two main theories regarding the Louvre theft, namely that the jewelry may have been stolen in exchange for a commission or for money laundering purposes.
