The United Nations concludes its participation in Expo 2025 by affirming its commitment to development, peace and diversity

The United Nations stated in a press release that its pavilion at the exhibition received 406,828 visitors, including heads of state and government, ministers, members of royal families, senior UN officials, journalists, and representatives of national and local governments.
During its 184-day tenure, the UN Pavilion hosted 24 temporary exhibitions led by various United Nations entities and offices, and organized or co-organized more than 50 events inside and outside the Pavilion.
On the final day of the UN Pavilion, the UN team joined the “Friendship Circle”, a gathering of Expo and Pavilion employees who held hands to form a circle on the grand ring, to express their support for the spirit of architectural design: “Unity in Diversity”.
Subsequently, Mr. Maher Nasser, UN Assistant Secretary-General and UN Commissioner-General for Expo 2025, addressed the forum to adopt the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai Declaration, where he noted that the Expo reminded us that… “Multilateralism, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding are not options, but essential to guiding our future.”
A space for dialogue and human communication
In a message marking the conclusion of Expo, Mr. Maher Nasser said that Expo 2025 “Show us what is possible when the world comes together – not just to showcase innovation, but to imagine a shared future. In a time of division and uncertainty, this exhibition offered something rare and vital: a space for dialogue, co-creation, and human connection.”
Mr. Nasser added that visitors to the exhibition had the opportunity to experience the world as one nation, where cultures, traditions and technologies met under one roof. “In the midst of growing divisions, the Expo became a living example of true international cooperation, where people learned from each other and felt a sense of belonging.”
Positive effect
He explained that nearly 40 percent of visitors to the exhibition completed a questionnaire prepared by the United Nations Pavilion online, and 95 percent rated their experience at the United Nations Pavilion positively. 96 percent of respondents reported an improved perception of the United Nations and said they felt inspired to take action for a better future.
Maher Nasser said: “These numbers, along with the smiles and tears on the faces of visitors leaving the ‘immersive theatre’, stand as true proof of the impact our message has had on them.”
Defending diversity and equality
Maher Nasser said: “As the United Nations, we were proud to contribute to the spirit and essence of this exhibition, by promoting Sustainable development goals“Defending diversity and equality, and bringing together partners around common challenges and hopes.”
The UN Commissioner thanked all the UN staff who helped make the United Nations’ participation in Expo 2025 a success. He also thanked the UN team to the Government of Japan, the Japan Association of World Expo 2025, and all the visitors who made this trip very meaningful.
He concluded his letter by saying: “Let us move forward with the momentum we have built here in Osaka, for people, for planet, and for peace.”
