Chinese TRUNK joins initiative "The next generation of foreign direct investment" It establishes its regional headquarters in the Emirates

Abu Dhabi, October 22 / WAM / The Ministry of Foreign Trade announced that TRUNK, a leading Chinese technology company in the field of autonomous driving solutions and charging networks enhanced by artificial intelligence, has joined the Next Generation Foreign Direct Investment Initiative in the UAE.

Under the joining, TRUNK, which is headquartered in the Chinese capital, Beijing, will establish a regional headquarters in the UAE, to expand the scope of its smart logistics solutions in the Middle East and Africa region.

TRUNK is one of the most promising companies with great potential in the technology sector, having been classified as a “Little Giant” by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China in recognition of its innovative capabilities and high technical capabilities.

The company’s regional headquarters in the UAE, which it intends to launch in 2026, will include departments specialized in sales, operation and maintenance, in addition to lines for manufacturing self-driving truck systems.

TRUNK aims to deliver 2,000 smart trucks equipped with its supporting systems to its customers in the region during the next five years.

His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade, said that the expansion of TRUNK in the UAE through the Next Generation Foreign Direct Investments initiative reflects the growing confidence in the thriving business environment in the country, which is characterized by its flexibility and support for investors, and the UAE continues to attract innovative international companies specialized in advanced technology fields from various parts of the world.

His Excellency expressed his confidence that TRUNK’s pioneering expertise in the field of autonomous driving will contribute to enhancing the development of the advanced logistics sector in the UAE, and consolidating its position as a leading country in the fields of smart transportation and advanced manufacturing.

He stressed that the company’s investments will support the country’s efforts to develop sectors of the future economy based on knowledge, innovation and advanced technology.

For his part, Professor Zhang Tianli, CEO of TRUNK, said that the strategic location of the UAE and the supportive business environment it provides make it an ideal center for our operations in the Middle East and Africa, and we look forward to cooperating with our partners in the country to develop the logistics sector in the region by providing our smart and sustainable solutions in the field of shipping.

TRUNK provides integrated autonomous driving solutions for the heavy truck sector, and its services include clients in the fields of ports, mining and logistics.

Within the framework of its operations in the country, the company expects to provide between 100 to 150 job opportunities during the next three years, concentrated in the areas of business development, delivery and operation, and research and development.

It is worth noting that the Next Generation Foreign Direct Investment Initiative, which was launched in 2022, is one of the basic pillars of the UAE’s strategy aimed at attracting companies specialized in advanced technology in various sectors, thus enhancing its position as a global center for innovation and accelerating the pace of diversification of the national economy.

It is expected that TRUNK’s joining the initiative will contribute to consolidating the UAE’s position as a global leader in the fields of logistics services, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
